Call for applications for MSc. Dev. Policy and Practice for Civil Society


 
MZUMBE UNIVERSITY DAR ES SAALAM CAMPUS COLLEGE CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR MSc. DEVELOPMENT POLICY AND PRACTICE FOR CIVIL SOCIETY FOR 2012/2013 ACADEMIC YEAR

Introduction

Mzumbe University in partnership with the School of Social & International Studies (SSIS) of the University of Bradford, UK invite applications from qualified applicants for Master of Science (MSc) in Development Policy and Practice for Civil Society for the 2012/2013 Academic Year, November 2012 to November 2013.

Aims and Objectives

This course will provide valuable academic and vocational skills; that will really set participants apart from the crowd. It is intended to develop the skills of those already working in civil society organisations or those who wish to work in this sector. Upon completion of this unique degree you will have a solid understanding of designing and implementing development projects and programmes from the perspective of civil society organisations, and you will also have gained a grounded knowledge of policies that directly affect civil society organisations and development process. You will also get the benefit of interactive work-based learning in civil society organisations. This programme has been developed jointly by Mzumbe and Bradford to address the specific needs of civil society and non-state actors in Africa. It was supported in the early stages by the EU-funded Non-State Actors Programme in Tanzania. This programme also invested in the creation of a resource centre at Mzumbe University Dar es salaam Campus College to support the operation of the academic services.

Course Structure and duration

The programme is one (1) year full time (including final dissertation). All classes will be taught in the evening. The modules will cover Project Planning, Design and Appraisal; Project and Programme Management; Issues in Development Policy; Working in the Third Sector; Civil Society in Sub-Saharan Africa; and Applied Conflict Resolution Skills.

Fee Structure

 Students will have to pay TSh. 3,800,000/= as tuition fee for Mzumbe University and an equivalent of Sterling Pound 1,250 for University of Bradford validation fee.

Entry Qualifications

Candidates should hold the following qualifications from any recognized institution(s):

A three year (or more) Bachelor's Degree of at least second class from a recognized

University

OR

A three year (or more) Advanced Diploma of at least second class from any accredited institution

Mode of Application

Applicants are required to fill their application forms along with two referees who can comment on candidates' ability and capacity for this study programme.

The forms can be collected from Mzumbe University Dar es Salaam Campus College or can be downloaded from our website www.dbs.mzumbe.ac.tz . Applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable application fee of TSh. 30,000/= payable to the Vice Chancellor, Mzumbe University through CRDB PPF Tower Account No. 01J1043012201.

All applications must be accompanied by copies of relevant academic certificates and

transcripts. If in doubt, inquiries to determine suitability for admission should be addressed to the Principal, Mzumbe University Dar es Salaam Campus College.
