Background
Compassion International Tanzania is an Evangelical Christian holistic child development ministry dedicated to the needy children of Tanzania. Compassion's sponsorship programs help to release children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty, with a view of enabling them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults. Compassion is seeking to recruit and hire the Tanzanian qualified professionals to fill the following three positions.
- MINISTRY SERVICES MANAGER
Job Summary
As an upper-level management position in the field office, the Ministry Services Manager provides oversight of all support operations, including accounting, business services, information technology, and human resources (1). This position leads the development of the Ministry Services department so that it provides reliable back office support that serves the entire field office while promoting integrity, productivity, and the wise stewardship of all human, financial and physical resources. Also ensures that the field office meets all legal requirements.
Reporting Relationships
The Ministry Services Manager reports to the Country Director.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
1. Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion and faithfully upholds Compassion's ministry in prayer.
2. Working within one's influence, serves as an advocate for children around the world who live in poverty and are not able to speak out for themselves. This includes being informed about the issues of children and influencing others to care about children who are in need.
3. Oversees operational systems and processes that enable the Country Management Team to use resources productively, safely and with great integrity.
a. Accounting - Ensures timely payment of all grants, accounts payable and payroll. Ensures timely recording of all field office financial transactions and submits timely reports to the Global Ministry Center and the local government as required. Equips the management team with the information and knowledge to manage their budgets.
b. Information Technology - Manages and ensures all office information systems are reliable, effective and utilized in accordance with Compassion's standards. Seeks to optimize processes through the application of business process management. Ensures effective and timely IT support and training is available to internal employees.
c. Business Services - Works toward optimal utilization of office space and compliance with Compassion global facility standards. Ensures safe, secure, healthy and clean facility. Manages field office vehicle fleet. Provides logistical support for office events. Oversees all purchasing activities and vendor relationships.
d. Human Resources – responsible for effective human resource functions including Staff Development, Recruitment, Compensation and Benefits, and Employee Engagement. Ensures that practices are in compliance with local labor laws & Compassion standards, including maintenance of human resources information systems and records. Maintains sound processes and protocols to ensure that employee relations issues, including performance and disciplinary matters, are elevated to the Country Director as appropriate.
4. Ensures that all legal and financial regulatory requirements are met.
a. Ensures that legal requirements are met related to Compassion's registration, legal status and reporting in the country. Ensures that insurance and reporting requirements meet the standards of Compassion and local governing authorities.
b. Ensures compliance with all local and Compassion accounting standards. Monitors internal control processes, optimizing the use of systems and separation of duties to develop sufficient checks and balances. Systems of internal control will be in accordance with professional and Compassion standards.
5. Participates on the Country Management Team and contributes to the strategic management of the field office alongside other department managers.
a. Facilitates the business planning and budgeting process. Assists the management team in aligning strategic plans with financial resources through the creation, monitoring and revision of budgets.
b. Ensures that information needs are met for management decision-making. Provides reports and analysis for field office leadership. Analyzes external economic trends as the basis for making budgetary projections and recommendations.
6. Leads and manages the Ministry Services Department. Oversees the development and fulfillment of employees' work and development plans. Provides regular feedback and conducts performance reviews within the department. Builds a culture of service to peers and inculcates a commitment to integrity.
7. Promotes continuous process improvement through the application of the Business Process Management discipline.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
1. Mature Christian person with strong evangelical Christian values; has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and is above reproach in integrity and honesty.
2. University degree in Business Management or related field and at least 5 years of management experience. Business planning experience, MBA & CPA preferred.
3. Experience leading diverse teams of functional specialists. Working knowledge of the human resource, accounting, business services and information technology fields. Demonstrable ability to manage knowledge workers
4. Broad operational thinker, including systems orientation and analytical skills.
5. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
6. Sound business judgment and decision-making ability. Able to think strategically across multiple business disciplines.
7. Knowledge of personal computers using Microsoft Office for operational management.
Working Conditions
Occasional travel both inside and outside of the country. Exposure to safety and disease hazards relevant to the local office. Working with foreigners and Compassion's sponsors / donors.

- SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Job Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible to record and report on the use of financial assets and systems and to develop office financial procedures in support of ministry objectives. Keeps accounting records updated and prepares financial statements according to the guidelines and policies given by Compassion International and the local government. Supervises the daily accounting operations, cash flow and payment cycles. Develops internal control processes for the office. Analyzes risks and trends and makes financial forecasts to help the Country Management Team make strategic decisions.

3. Develops country office procedures and guidelines to ensure all financial transactions are documented and recorded according to generally accepted accounting standards, i.e. Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Non-consumable resources, Payroll (including the payment of taxes and filing of tax reports).
4. Prepares the accounting information and financial reports required by Compassion International and various outside agencies (including local audit requirements and local regulatory agencies). Develops and evaluates internal control procedures.
5. Provides financial information and forecasts for the effective management of the country office. This includes preparing financial variance and risk analysis and coordinating financial information for the annual planning and budgeting process. Makes financial forecasts to help the CMT (Country Management Team) make strategic decisions.
6. Responsible for signnificat local reporting requirments (i.e. to a local tax authority or annual audit). Also responsible for banking relationships.
7. Responsible for financial systems – ensuring compliance with GMC (Global Ministry Service) requirements, ensuring systems are current and compatible and comply with local laws.
8. Supervises and delegates tasks to the Accountant and/or Assistant Accountant (when applicable).
9. Ensures that funds are transferred to Compassion's partners in a timely manner.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
1. Mature Christian person, based on Christian values; has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and is above reproach in integrity and honesty.
2. University degree in Accounting or related field. MBA and CPA is an added advantage.
3. At least 5 years working experience as a full time Accountant.
4. Ability to supervise a team of people.
5. Keeps confidential financial and organizational information.
6. Maintains Accounting certifications required by law or country trade customs.
7. Knowledge of personal computers using Microsoft products.
8. A complete knowledge of financial-related government regulations and laws.
9. Good organizational and problem solving skills.
10. Ability to develop forecasts and strategic recommendations for change.
11. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

- PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION ASSISTANT
Job Summary
Assists in the administration of the Program Department. Communicates departmental needs by telephone, email or personally within and outside of the country office. Performs secretarial and receptionist duties. Follows Compassion matrix management guidelines and policies as directed.
Reporting Relationships
The Program Implementation Assistant reports to the Program Director.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
1. Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion and faithfully upholds Compassion's ministry in prayer.
2. Working within one's influence, serves as an advocate for children around the world who live in poverty and are not able to speak out for themselves. This includes being informed about the issues of children and influencing others to care about children who are in need.
3. Assists the Program department through communications and correspondence.
4. Keeps records current for the Program Director and the project work.
5. Provides follow-up for administrative aspects of the Program department as requested by the Program Director.
6. Oversees or performs the translation of documents and letters.
7. Performs other secretarial duties assigned by the Program Director.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
1. Mature Christian person, based on evangelical Christian values; has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and is above reproach in integrity and honesty.
2. Able to file records and maintain documents accurately.
3. Able to act as a bilingual secretary including speaking, reading and writing in English.
4. Able to communicate effectively with projects to obtain information.
5. Experience in using personal computers and Microsoft office software.
6. Experience in performing secretarial and receptionist duties.
7. Willing to travel to projects or other locations as required.
8. Able to work within a team and in a matrix management environment.
