The University of Dar es salaam invites applications from suitably qualified

Tanzanians to be considered for immediate employment to fill the following

vacant posts

 

1. (a) Job Title: Clerical Officer II (1 post)

 

(b)Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications

- Form VI certificate with two principal passes in Arts subjects and must

have a credit pass in English at ¡§O¡¨ level plus a Diploma in Records

Management with a minimum of four years experience in a Clerical

position

 

(c) Main Duties:

- Checks the accuracy of the work done

- Previews the incoming mail and marks the mail to proper files so that

the mail can be filed by the clerks and presented to action officers.

- Maintains a diary of bring up (B.U.) files and ensures that files so

marked are sent to the scheduled officers on the dates shown without

delay.

- Decides on proper subject title for new files and authorizes closure of

old volumes which should be taken to Archives.

- Provides on the job

training to newly appointed office clerks.

- Ensures security and neatness.

- Reviews work progress.

- Conducts periodic examination of the housing and order of keeping files

in the office.

- Reports to seniors about any deficiencies which may hinder smooth

operation of office activities.

- Ensures that there is smooth and efficient functioning of office activities.

- Performs any other duties that may be assigned by one¡¦s reporting

officer.

 

2. (a) Job Title: Office Management Secretary III (1 post)

 

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications

- Form IV certificate with credit passes in Kiswahili and English, plus a

Diploma in Secretarial Studies and has advanced training in modern

office technology including computer applications.

- At least four (4) years experience serving as Secretary I in a large

reputable firm.

 

(c) Main Duties:

- Works with heads of sections, units or departments

- Coordinates

all office needs and requirements,

- Receives and distributes letters to respective officials;

- Receives and directs visitors,

- Keeps minutes/records of meetings

- Arranges and attends meetings where necessary and writes minutes

- Receives telephone calls and takes messages

- Handles travel arrangements on duty for senior officers and other

members of the unit/department

- Ensures expedient, accurate and clean execution of duties

- Ensures that copies of letters are filed in relevant files

- Types confidential letters, minutes, circulars, certificates etc

- Ensures cleanliness of the office(s) she/he works in and those of the

officers she/he works with

- Takes proper care of facilities and equipment under her charge

- Performs any other duties assigned by one¡¦s reporting officer.

 

3. (a) Job Title: Secretary II (1 post)

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications

Form IV certificate with credit passes in Kiswahili and English,

plus a certificate in secretarial studies and basic computer course

from a recognized institution with relevant working experience of

at least four years in a similar position.

 

 (c) Main Duties:

- Types all general correspondence and non confidential

matters

- Types letters, minutes, notices, bulletins, circulars, certificates etc.

- Prints reports, letters etc.

- Takes proper care of all machines under his/her charge and makes sure

they are used for official work only

- Files copies of typed letters in relevant files

- Receives and directs visitors.

- Attends telephone calls and takes messages.

- Makes sure there are necessary facilities for proper job performance.

- Uses modern machines in discharging his/her duties

- Takes care of all facilities under ones charge

- Performs any other duties assigned by one¡¦s reporting officer

 

4. (a) Job Title: Senior Laboratory Engineer II (1 post)

Department: Structural & Construction Engineering

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications

- Holder of relevant Master's degree who is registered as a Graduate

Engineer.

- At least four (4) years experience serving as a Senior Laboratory

Engineer III in a reputable firm.

(c) Main Duties:

- Organizes and conducts formal training/seminars for technical staff in

the respective laboratory/workshop

- Conducts professional development programmes (PDPs) in their areas

of specialization

- Designs and supervises construction of experimental test rigs for M.Sc.

and Ph.D students and for other research and development projects in

the respective laboratory

- Conducts consultancy in the area of specialization

- Supervises and orients technicians and artisans in their duties

- Conducts onthejob

training for Technicians and Artisans

- Performs complex repairs and maintenance of laboratory facilities

- Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one¡¦s reporting officer.

 

5. (a) Job Title: Auxiliary Police Constable (1 post)

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications

- Holder of a Form IV certificate who has obtained a Police certificate

from a recognized Police Training School.

- At least four (4) years experience serving as Security Guard I in a

reputable firm

(c) Main Duties:

- Assists in the daily routine beats around the campus so as to maintain

peace and order

- Guards the property of the University.

- Reports occurrences in his/her area and other matters relating to

security to his/her supervisors.

- Takes preventive measures against possible theft and insecurity

- Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one¡¦s reporting officer.

 

6. (a) Job Title: Auxiliary Police Sergeant (3 posts)

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications

- Holder of a Form IV certificate who has obtained a Police certificate

from a recognized Police Training School plus Certificate in Law from a

recognized institution.

- At least four (4) years experience serving as Auxiliary Police Corporal

 

(c) Main Duties:

- Supervises junior auxiliary police

- Investigates cases and takes people to police as directed by

management

- Reports occurrences to seniors and advise them on how to

improve security in the University.

- Assisting in planning and assigning duties to subordinate

staff

- Carrying out investigations of complicated cases.

- Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one¡¦s

reporting officer.

 

7. (a) Job Title: Auxiliary Police Corporal (1 post)

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications

- Holder of a Form IV certificate who has obtained a Police certificate

from a recognised Police Training School.

- At least four (4) years experience serving as Auxiliary Police Constable

 

(c) Main Duties

- Supervising subordinates according to security policies and regulations.

- Guards sensitive areas where security is highly required

- Reports occurrences in his/her area and other matters relating to

security to his/her supervisors.

- Takes preventive measures against possible theft and insecurity

- Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one¡¦s reporting officer.

 

8. (a) Job Title: Security Guard I (3 posts)

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications:

- Form IV certificate with passes in English, Kiswahili, History or Civics or

Form VI with passes in English, Kiswahili and History plus National

Service Training and/or People's Militia Training Phase II and/or any

other form of military training. The candidate must be vetted by the

police. Applicants must not be above 25 years.

 

(c) Main Duties:

- This is a training grade for regular security work under close supervision

- Assists in the daily routine beats around the Campus so as to maintain

peace and order

- Guards the property of the University.

- Performs any other duties as assigned by one¡¦s reporting officer.

 

9 (a) Job Title: Accountant I (2 posts)

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications:

- Holder of a good first degree majoring in Accounting and CPA (T) or its

equivalent and must have been registered by NBAA as an Authorized

Accountant.

- At least four (4) years experience serving as Accountant/Accountant

Trainee in a reputable firm.

 

 (c) Main Duties:

- Interprets financial regulations,

- Assists in coordinating Accounting services

- Conducts internal training of accounting staff in liaison with the

University Staff Training and Development Office.

- Assists in the implementation of the decisions of the University Funding

Promotion Committee as well as Council resolutions of financial

matters, annual estimates and budgeting.

- Reviews accounting policies.

- Advises top management on all financial matters

- Performs any other duties assigned to him/her by the Bursar.

 

10. (a) Job Title: Assistant Accountant I (3 posts)

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications:

- Holder of Full NAD/ADA/B.Com/Professional Level II or its equivalent

with working experience of four years in similar position.

 

(c) Main Duties:

- Performs variety of accounting tasks including receiving and paying out

cash and cheques.

- Maintains fuel and accurate accounts records

- Prepares trial balances

- Checks the correctness of claims and retirements ensuring that they are

supported by appropriate authority/evidences

- Custodian of accountable documents

- Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by his/

her senior.

 

11. (a) Job Title: Senior Laboratory Technician II ¡V Health (1 post)

Department: University Health Centre

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications:

- Holder of Diploma in Medical Lab. Technology (DMLT)

- At least four (4) years experience serving as Senior Health Laboratory

Technician III in a reputable firm

 

 (c) Main Duties:

- Performs specific laboratory work

- Takes care of instruments and equipment in the laboratory

- Collects specimen from patients

- Performs routine cleanliness of the laboratory

- Implements maintenance and rehabilitation plans for laboratory

facilities

- Supervises and orients junior staff.

- Performs any other duties assigned by ones supervisor

12. (a) Job Title: Technician I

 

Departments: Mechanical Engineering (2 posts)

Molecular Biology & Biotechnology (2 posts)

 

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic, professional

qualifications:

- Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Diploma in Medical Lab. Technology

(DMLT) or City & Guilds I & II (CGLT) or Higher National Cert. (HNC)

or Diploma from a recognised institution with a minimum of four years

experience in the relevant field.

 

(c) Main Duties:

- Carries out, independently, specified routine technical tasks which

require a higher degree of technical knowledge and skills.

- Implements specified maintenance plans for laboratory facilities

- Implements specified technical plans and designs connected with

research, students' practical and consultancy work

- Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one¡¦s reporting officer.

 

13. (a) Job Title: Technician I (Electrical)

Department: Estates

 

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications:

- Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or City & Guilds I & II (CGLT) or

Higher National Cert. (HNC) or Diploma from a recognised institution

with a minimum of four years experience in a similar position

 

 (c) Main Duties:

- Liaises with Estates Management and Electrical Section staff on matters

pertaining to the smooth operations of electrical repairs and

maintenance in all UDSM facilities

- Purchases and controls electrical materials

- Advises on routine/periodic and emergency maintenance

- Plans and implements of all electrical repairs and maintenance in all

UDSM facilities

- Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the

Estates Manager.

 

14. (a) Job Title: Technician I (1 post)

Department: Civil Engineering & Built Environment

 

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications:

- Holder of Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Diploma in Medical Lab.

Technology (DMLT) or City & Guilds I & II (CGLT) or Higher National

Cert. (HNC) or Diploma from a recognised institution with a minimum

of four years experience in a similar position

 

(c) Main Duties:

- Carries out, independently, specified routine technical tasks which

require a higher degree of technical knowledge and skills.

- Implements specified maintenance plans for laboratory facilities

- Implements specified technical plans and designs connected with

research, students' practical and consultancy work

- Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one's reporting officer.

 

15. (a) Job Title: Senior Supplies Officer III (1 post)

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications:

- Holders of a University Degree/ Advanced Diploma in Material

Management (ADMM or NDMM) plus a full ¡V Certified Supplies

professional CSP (T), IPS (UK) or equivalent.

- At least four (4) years experience serving as Supplies Officer in a

reputable firm

 

 (c) Main Duties:

- Incharge

of either Store or Purchasing Section

- Ensures that the efficiency of stock control and levels are maintained

- Responsible for clearing and forwarding activities

- Takes charge of warehouse

- Responsible for the purchasing processes or supply control of given lines

of stocks

- Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one¡¦s reporting officer.

 

16. (a) Job Title: Senior Administrative Officer II (3 posts)

 

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic, professional

qualifications

- Holder of Master's degree in Public Administration, Sociology, Human

Resource Management or Law.

- At least four (4) years experience serving as Senior

Administrative/Human Resource Officer III in a reputable firm.

 

(c) Main Duties:

- Directs the overall activities of a Section through subordinate

administrative officers:

o by establishing objectives for the Section;

o by allocating workload of the Section;

o by providing assistance and guidance to subordinate

officers;

o by reviewing completed work for thoroughness,

accuracy and adequacy for presentation,

o by assessing work performance, appraising staff

potential and development/needs;

- Act as secretary to designated committees and ensures implementation

of resolutions.

- Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one¡¦s reporting officer.

 

17. (a) Job Title: Senior Driver I (1 posts)

b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications

The candidate must have successfully completed Ordinary

Level Secondary Education with passes in Kiswahili and

English. He/She must have a valid Class C Driving License

with possession of Trade Test Grade I/Drivers Grade I

certificate from VETA or NIT plus four years relevant

working experience in a senior position.

 

 (c) Main Duties:

„X Drives institutional vehicles

„X Maintains log books

„X Responsible for safekeeping

of the vehicle and tools entrusted

to him/her

„X Maintains disciplined behavior and proper conduct in rendering

services to his/her assignees

„X Maintains cleanliness of the vehicle and tools

„X Reports promptly any defect or problems detected in the vehicle

„X Performs messengerial duties such as dispatching documents/letters,

collecting mail, photocopying of documents and any other duties as may

18. (a) Job Title: Senior Laboratory Assistant I (1post)

Department: Mechanical & Industrial Engineering

 

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should posses the following academic and professional

qualifications

- Holder of Form IV certificate plus Trade Test Grade I with a minimum of

four years experience serving as a Senior Laboratory Assistant II in a

reputable firm.

 

(c) Main Duties:

- Assists the Principal Laboratory Assistant in carrying out specific

laboratory work requiring high degree of understanding and skills

- Assists the Principal Laboratory Assistant in supervising and conducting

On the job

training for junior laboratory assistants.

- Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one¡¦s reporting officer.

 

19 (a) Job Title: Janitor I (1 post)

 

(b) Qualifications and Experience

Applicants for the job should posses the following academic and

professional qualifications

Diploma in Education or Home Economics or equivalent

qualification preferably with a minimum of four years experience

in similar position.

 

(c) Main Duties:

- Assists in supervising Hall Attendants.

- Assists in enforcing students¡¦ rules and regulations.

- Assists in keeping and maintaining proper residence records

- Assists in ensuring security in and around halls of residence.

- Performs any other duties prescribed by one¡¦s reporting officer.
