Position: Media & Communications Coordinator
Location: Wageningen, The Netherlands
Status: Auxiliary staff – Level 3A
Duration of contract: One year
CTA is a joint international institution of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States and the European Union (EU). Its mission is to advance food and nutritional security, increase prosperity and encourage sound natural resource management in ACP countries. It facilitates access to information and knowledge; supports evidence-based, multi-stakeholder development of agricultural policies and strategies; promotes inclusive value chain development and use of ICTs; and strengthens the capacities of agricultural and rural development institutions and communities.
The Coordinator's role will be part of the Knowledge Management and Communication Programme. He/She will be required to work closely with marketing and communications colleagues. He/She will also interact closely with other CTA programme and administrative staff.
CTA wishes to recruit a Media & Communications Coordinator to develop and implement specific media & communication plans. This will include, in particular, CTA's 30th Anniversary and the International Year of Family Farming, which will take place in 2014.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the development of specific media & communication plans in consultation with CTA staff and partners. Ensure the plans are aligned to the global communication strategy and to the key objectives of the project/programme concerned.
  • Coordinate and manage the implementation of media & communication plans, including:
  1. Developing suitable messaging and audience targeting
  2. Deploying suitable communication tools/materials both traditional and new media
  3. Planning and overseeing creation and production of high-quality communication materials: brochures, visuals, web content, videos.
  4. Mobilising journalists: preparing press releases and press kits, ensuring distribution in the relevant networks, inviting journalists to events, organizing press conferences, evaluating media coverage.
  5. Organization of specific events or CTA's participation in key events or events co-organized with partners.
  6. Direction, supervision and control of all service providers involved in the implementation of communication plans: design agencies, communication agencies, Public Relations agencies, media agencies, consultants
  7. Regular reports on implementation of the plans, performance and impact indicators, lessons learned and corrective measures to be put in place.
Academic qualifications
  • A degree in Communication or Journalism
Relevant experience
  • At least 7 years relevant work experience within the field of communication, in line with related responsibilities, preferably in agricultural or rural development context
  • Good knowledge of the tools and processes of publishing and social media
  • Experience in the management of budgets and service providers
Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Fluency in French or English and proven ability to work in the other language
  • Good listening and presentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, respecting and appreciating other perspectives and cultures
  • Enthusiastic and dynamic
  • Very creative in terms of ideas and innovation
  • Highly organized and able to meet tight deadlines
  • Flexibility to travel, as this position involves overseas travel.
Salary and benefits
  • Gross annual income of 57,188 € mostly tax free
