Background of the organization

The Greening Africa project aims to improve living conditions of extremely poor families in the Manyara region through implementing innovations in natural resource management, alternative economic activities and preventive health care.
The project uses the Pachamama Raymi methodology, which has been developed and successfully applied in Latin America over de past three decades, and is executed and supervised by the Peruvian NGO Pachamama Raymi (see www.pachamamaraymi.org for details).
The Greening Africa project has started working in two villages in 2015. Two more villages will be added shortly.

The project is recruiting for an executive director in the light of two upcoming developments:
• Replacement of Peruvian staff by local staff. This includes the current Peruvian executive director.
• Expected future growth in and outside of the Manyara region. This warrants the need to attract and train multiple executive directors.

The office of the project is in Magugu. The executive director is expected to undertake frequent visits to the field.

Responsibilities
The executive director oversees the Greening Africa project in multiple villages and is responsible for:
• Project results
• Management, recruitment and training of office and field staff
• Monitoring & evaluation
• Financial administration & control
• Quarterly financial and technical progress reporting
• Representation of Greening Africa at regional level
• Maintenance of relations with board members, local authorities and funding companies

Requirements
1) Educational requirements: university degree in agronomy, natural resource management, international development studies or a related field
2) Required work experience:
o at least 5 years' experience in a leading role in rural development projects, preferably in the field of poverty reduction, agriculture or degradation of the environment
o experience in working as part of a team and as a team manager
3) Required skills:
o fluency in English (in writing and speaking) and Swahili
o excellent communication skills
o excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point)
4) Other requirements
o ability to drive a motor cycle
o strong personal motivation for poverty eradication and rehabilitation of natural resources
o strong affinity with the projects' target audience

Candidates with experience in monitoring & evaluation and/or financial administration & control are preferred.
