We are currently seeking a Youth and Gender Specialist for the anticipated USAID-funded Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub Program. The project's primary focus will be to provide expert technical assistance to help farmers and firms, through private sector associations, to efficiently meet market requirements of quality and volume and succeed in the regional and international market place. To achieve this objective, technical components will include improving the enabling environment for regional trade; enhancing the integration and competitiveness of regional value chains; and increasing international and regional trade.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead all youth and gender activities under the project contract and will closely collaborate with all other partners involved.
  • Advise program in developing strategies and plans to improve economic participation rate of youth and women and systemic changes within the labor force.
  • Plan and implement public awareness campaigns.
  • Help ACDI/VOCA and its partners to build upon existing efforts to reduce women and girls' vulnerability to gender-based violence and improve access to relevant services.
  • Strengthen service data/monitoring to ensure that youth and gender inequities are tracked and appropriate response strategies are implemented.
  • Organize/support regular monitoring among local districts, NGO/CBO partners, and service providers.
  • Analyze and report on program and project progress. Ensure that youth and gender program components are results-oriented.
  • Prepare and conduct trainings on youth and gender topics for staff and beneficiaries.
  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure gender is integrated properly throughout the program areas and is in accordance with USAID's youth and gender strategy.
Qualifications:
  • A university degree in sociology, gender studies, economics, agriculture economics or a related field required.
  • Five years or more of progressively responsible work experience demonstrating experience. conducting youth and gender analysis and gender integration programming, including with on-the-ground participatory approaches to research.
  • Understanding of USAID's youth, gender, and value chain techniques and approaches.
  • Experience with USAID-funded projects preferred.
  • Strong English language written and oral communication skills are required.
