The Organisation

The Role
Plan International is bidding for the Addressing Stunting in Tanzania Early (ASTUTE) programme. This role is dependent on the success of this bid. Plan will have the role of lead organisation and as such will hold the contract with DFID.
The Chief of Party (Team Leader) is responsible for overall management of the project, including managing all consortium activities, coordinating programme-focused strategic planning and decision making, and managing key personnel. The Chief of Party (Team Leader) will serve as key liaison with DFID and all other agency counterparts, consortium partners, and alliance partners involved with the programme.
Primary responsibilities include providing overall leadership, management, and general technical direction of the programme, assuring an integrated vision among different components and actors, and ensuring programme performance. The Team Leader bears ultimate responsibility for ensuring achievement of programme results and adherence to donor regulations.
The Person
  • Background in nutrition, public health, social science or related field is essential (relevant education to Masters level is preferred but not essential)
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Previous work experience in Tanzania or East Africa preferred.
  • Significant proven senior-level management experience implementing and managing large, multi-sectoral projects.
  • Ability to politically-correctly negotiate with a diverse set of multisectoral stakeholders within Tanzania including government, implementing partners and local government authorities.
  • Excellent knowledge of nutrition and social and behavior change approaches, with an emphasis on stunting
  • Significant experience managing DFID programmes, including previous Chief of Party/ Team Leader experience.
Type of Role: 5 year fixed term contract
Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Reports to: Country Director, Tanzania
