Green Society (GS) stands for a sustainable society, in which everyone takes responsibility for the present, but also for the living conditions of future generations. The GS programme focuses on rural areas where the majority of the poor live in a context of degrading natural resources, climate change and increasing energy prices. Hivos partner with like minded institutions. Together they design and implement programmes aiming at preserving ecosystems, supporting the emergence of vibrant rural communities and economies, stimulating, creating the space and necessary conditions for green innovations to flourish. The GS focus both the Food and the Energy domains. In the Food domain, focus is towards a broader, more systemic orientation, encompassing production and consumption. The GS programme equally contributes to the development of a supportive green and inclusive financial sector as the linking pin.
This BDO position operates in the Energy domain, focus is towards an approach whereby there is both room for supply (renewable energy ecosystems) and demand (behavioural change; an enabling policy environment). S/he's objective is to steer the Green Energy and Financial Services component of the GS in attaining the global funding targets that contributes to Hivos' sustainability.
Candidates should have a proven track record of using Green Energy approaches and Financial Services in a relevant manner for green economy themes. Experience and relevant network with leading financial institutions in the green economy/green finance. Academic background in business (MBA), RE, Finance or Economics. Additionally, candidates should have proven track record with global and local energy systems.
The BDO position focuses on planning, scanning, generating and delivering new ideas. S/he leads, cultivates relationships with stakeholders (partners, donors, government, etc.). S/he facilitates the transformation of innovative ideas and solutions into sustainable programmes and projects as attractive social investment opportunities for donors.
The BDO is a mid-level position. S/he delivers the complete business development process within the region and BDO sector. The BDO initiates, manages and implements specific Hivos business development projects, organises labs in which Hivos staff and partners develop ideas, manages professional and donor networks around themes, and translates ideas into viable solutions and into business for Hivos through successful resource mobilisation.
The BDO proactively focuses on the phases and process programme formulation to the mobilization of resources for the implementation. The BDO scans, identifies and creates new projects and programmes in line with Hivos' strategy and profile.

Knowledge and experience:
• Relevant academic level of working and thinking
• Relevant work experience: minimum 5 – 7 years
