Context/Scope:Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa by geography and by population (approx 42m people, with a growth rate of 2.8%). It is a member of the East African Community whose headquarters is in Arusha in Tanzania. The largest population, however, is in Dar es Salaam, which is the commercial capital. Tanzania is well endowed agriculturally and has vast mineral resources in the western part of the country, where the largest urban centre is Mwanza.
Serengeti Breweries Ltd (SBL) operates exclusively in Tanzania and is the 2nd largest beer company with a market share of 30%. It is an integrated demand/supply business with 3 operational breweries in Dar, Mwanza and Moshi. SBL's flagship brand is Premium Serengeti lager and accounts for 46% of SBL sales volumes. The other beer brands are Tusker, Uhuru, Kick, Tusker Malt Lager, Pilsner and Guinness.
SBL's 3 breweries in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Moshi have a combined capacity of 1.5m Hls.
Market Complexity:SBL operates in a competitive environment and in a vast geography. The main player in the beer industry is Tanzania Breweries Ltd. (TBL), a subsidiary of SABMiller, who until recently were a third party manufacturer of EABL brands Tusker, Pilsner and Guinness. As a result of the cessation of the agreement between TBL and EABL, there is heightened competitive activity in that market.
Inflation rates remain high in Tanzania (7.5% expected in F12) and average income per capita is less than 1 USD per day. The GDP growth is estimated at 6.4% and is expected to grow to 7.1% as investment, trade and tourism pick up. There is growing consumer affluence and consumerism, giving rise to greater opportunities in our product categories.

- To provide rigour to the decision making process through business partnership and intelligent application of established tools and techniques.
- To enhance decision-making capabilities for improved evaluation and issue resolution across the commercial teams in the business.
- To act as a challenging business partner by anticipating business requirements and providing analytics ensuring sound value-creating solutions for all strategic decisions.
- To deliver against the strategic intent as it relates to embedding Financial Decision Support in SBL
- Support the CFM in identifying, evaluating and implementing projects, which drive improved value e.g. sales force effectiveness. Constantly seek improved value from existing Business e.g. Value Chain Analysis, cost to serve, brand value engineering, CAPEX investment appraisal.
- Project scoping and post review analysis, gaining buy-in and commitment of project sponsors to this scope
- Drive common, rigorous evaluation processes into the Business to enhance value creation.
- Provide coaching support to Commercial teams and functions
- Actively support and drive the SBL Functional Strategy
- Degree level with strong academic record
- Qualified accountant and/or MBA
- 3-4 years commercial finance or general business experience
- Change, Quality and Results Orientated
- Understands consumer and trading strategy development
- Ability to constructively challenge business process and strategy
- Inability to effectively partner with Sales & Marketing functions
- Inability to demonstrate brilliant execution of tasks, be thorough and apply a high standard to everything you do
- Lack of commitment to outstanding teamwork
