Pamoja Tunaweza provides affordable health care to at risk families in the Moshi-Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. The organisation operates a medical clinic/centre and hosts bi-annual medical caravans to bring doctors, nurses and other healthcare specialists to Tanzania providing screening, treatment and long term care of patients.

In recent years, the organisation has been highly successful winning grants for a variety of global health studies for which the centre provides administrative and logistical support. Alongside and in order to be self-sustainable long term, Pamoja Tunaweza also has a number of social businesses which aims to raise funds to support the core functions of the organisation.

Given the growth of the organisation in recent years, Pamoja Tunaweza is seeking a full time Managing Director to consolidate and streamline current activities as well as move the organisation forward to be one of Moshi-Kilimanjaro's leading healthcare non profits. This is a varied and challenging role, which requires sound and stable leadership as well as the ability to multi-task and oversee a range of various activities.

Reporting to: Dr Karen Yeates, Founding Director & current acting Managing Director AND Board of Directors, Pamoja Tunaweza, Tanzania

Job purpose:To lead, manage and coordinate all activities of Pamoja Tunaweza, providing overall strategic direction to local staff as well as accountability to the leadership team

Location:Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region

Job description:

Strategic leadership
  • Provide overall strategic leadership to Pamoja Tunaweza
  • Assist in development and implementation of a strategic plan and collaborate with the Board of Directors to make strategic decisions
  • Develop and implement a Management monitoring and evaluation system to assess the effectiveness of projects, programs and other functions and apply the results to increase the effectiveness of the organisation

Overall supervision of the Tanzania-based activities
  • Oversee the management of the day-to-day operations of Pamoja Tunaweza. Establish and coordinate all management reporting and act as a liaison between the managerial team and the Board of Directors
  • Assess the programs and activities to ensure services are delivered in a manner that is consistent with the organization's mission and philosophical approach towards programming
  • Responsible for overseeing the development and execution of project deliverables, lead project planning, budgeting, action plans and monitoring processes
  • Ensure close collaboration and coordination with cooperating partners to guarantee smooth implementation of activities and achievement of results as specified in grant agreements
  • Support the organisational fundraising strategy, actively participating where appropriate
  • Oversee PAMOJA Tunaweza's business development activities.
  • In conjunction with the managerial team, the Managing Director will plan and coordinate public relations efforts and activities that serve to promote the organization

Human resources and financial management

  • Oversee and support the management of the organisations resources including but not limited to Pamoja Tunaweza's recruitments processes and policies, staff management and practices as well as being accountable for the financial management aspect of the organisation
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of annual activity-based project budgets as well as monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports

Required qualifications and experience:
  • Master's degree in NGO management, international development (or related field), or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of management and supervisory experience (preferably of international teams).
  • Previous experience in strategic planning and execution of M&E activities
  • Experience effectively managing program budgets of varying size and complexity

  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong planning and organizing skills
  • Financial management skills
  • Experience living and/or working overseas required (preferably East Africa)
  • Fluent in English

Desirable:
  • 5 years of overseas experience.
  • Experience managing public-health projects
  • Fluent Swahili
