Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Context:
As part of the Department of Operations and Emergencies, the intern will work under the responsibility of the Statistics and knowledge Unit and perform a variety of tasks, subject to the team's workload and priorities at the time of the internship.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
  1. Produce high quality info graphics for the department.
  2. Develop graphs, charts, and analytics and illustrative maps, diagrams, and graphics.
  3. Layout reports, info-sheets, and other publication materials.
  4. Assist in creating a department graphic identity, based on already existing tools and materials and in line with IOM's visual requirements.
  5. Assist in standardizing all existing products and templates such as info sheets, presentation, situation reports as well as fonts, formatting, icons, images and layout techniques.
  6. Contribute to web content development, internally and externally.
  7. Assist in developing web design mockups for internal and external platforms.
  8. Assess new standards, technologies and trends.
  9. Performs other duties as may be required.
Qualifications and Experience:
§ University degree graphic design, graphic arts or a related field, or a college diploma supplemented with additional years of experience;
§ Excellent knowledge of graphic design software;
§ Advanced proficiency with software packages, most specifically Adobe Suite (In design, Illustrator and Photoshop) and MS Office (Publisher, PowerPoint, Visio);
§ Basic knowledge of GIS and web mapping is an asset;
§ Knowledge of the Organization's rules and regulations as they pertain to the incumbent's area of responsibility;
§ Good interpersonal skills and work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues and counterparts from diverse cultures and professional backgrounds;
§ Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively;
§ Use time efficiently and ability to prioritize assignments, allocate appropriate time for completing work and meet deadlines;
§ Ability to work under pressure and handle a large volume of work in an efficient and timely manner;
§ Self-driven, inventive, innovative, collegial, committed, efficient, accurate and prompt;
§ Initiative and willingness to learn new skills;
§ Excellent computer skills; knowledge of MS Office. Knowledge of public information products software an asset.
Personal Development
The incumbent will acquire technical knowledge in the area of the Department of Operations and Emergencies information management activities. He will gain experience in working in an international multi-cultural environment, with an intergovernmental organization.
Languages
Fluency in English is required.
Remuneration
A small monthly stipend will be offered.
