Save the Children is a leading Australian humanitarian agency. With more than 90 years working with children, we are at the forefront of saving children's lives when emergencies strike. To increase our capacity to respond, we are creating a dynamic and highly skilled Humanitarian Australian Response Team (HARTs) of emergency personnel. The team will have a range of technical skill areas, able to support chronic and sudden onset emergencies, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific, and the flexibility to deploy globally in line with the humanitarian imperative.
About the HARTs Safety and Security Advisor role
As the HARTs Safety and Security Advisor, you will generally be deployed to will lead and manage the set up or scale up of all safety and security management activities related to a Save the Children emergency response. You will support the Response Team Leader and other members of the senior management team. Your focus will be on all aspects of safety and security management, including ongoing context analysis, often identifying and training a national Safety and Security Coordinator. You will provide management, leadership and capacity building responsible for ensuring sound safety and security management practices and rigorous controls are in place, in line with Save the Children policies and procedures. On occasion you may also be asked to gap fill a Safety and Security role in a chronic humanitarian country program.
About You
You will have expertise in current safety and security practices and issues affecting aid work globally, couple with previous experience as an NGO Security Advisor. Your experience of working in hostile environments and proven ability to undertake Security Risk assessments will enable you to establish information and security networks, and coordinate with country authorities, armed actors (where appropriate), donors, International Organisations and local NGOs.
You will be willing to travel for up to 70% of the year, with deployment lengths of up to 3 months.You will be available and ready to be deployed anywhere in the world at short notice. You will normally work unusual hours and will often working in stressful and insecure environments.
