Business Developer/ Institutional Fundraiser Dutch WASH Alliance

The Dutch WASH Alliance (www.washalliance.nl) is an Alliance of 6 NGOs in the Netherlands with a mission to provide sustainable WASH services to everyone, following a FIETS sustainability approach. We currently work in 8 countries in Asia and Africa (Benin, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Nepal, and Uganda). In each country a WASH Alliance has been established. We have a strong focus on private sector development, public sector development and a multi-stakeholder approach.
As Business Developer/Institutional Fundraiser you are responsible for identifying business opportunities and acquisition to support our mission of providing sustainable WASH services to everyone. You are responsible for acquisition of big grant and/or investment programmes (preferably multi-million, multi-country, multi-stakeholder and multi annual) for the Dutch WASH Alliance. You work in the WASH Alliance Management Unit and in close cooperation with other WASH Alliance staff and staff of the member organisations.

You have a good knowledge of the current international market for WASH funds with institutional donors and philanthropy, but also with Social Investment Funds. You have a good network in these organisations. You know where the current opportunities for WASH funding can be found, as well as what is needed to tap into these funds. You will develop and execute a funding strategy for the Dutch WASH Alliance. You also have a good network with (international) businesses relevant for WASH services to develop partnerships in PPPs.
You maintain and develop partnerships with companies and with strategic donors and funders on the one hand, and on the other hand you are able to translate and link this with programme development of the Dutch WASH Alliance. Your ultimate goal is to write proposals and acquire funding for the Dutch WASH Alliance (grants/investments).
Your profile
  • Academic level, with minimum of 10 years experience in development programmes, preferably related to WASH and/or private sector development
  • Experience and track-record in business development/fundraising (institutional/ philanthropy/ PPP development), good knowledge of programmatic planning models, business models, monitoring systems and proposal writing
  • Innovative and strategic thinker, capable of finding pragmatic solutions to complex problems
  • Entrepreneurial and taking initiative
  • Relevant international network
  • Good networker, excellent communicator and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English and good understanding of Dutch language
  • Preparedness to travel occasionally to other countries
  • Dutch citizen, or in possession of legal entitlement to live and work in the Netherlands.
