Chief Security Advisor at African Barrick Gold CHIEF SECURITY ADVISOR 

African Barrick Gold (ABG) seeks to employ a Chief Security Advisor based at our office in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This role reports to the General Manager Sustainability and the role holder will be accountable to lead the ABG Security function by providing specialist advice and support to Company Senior Leadership and site Security Teams through the setting and monitoring of security standards, and development of strategic security plans (reactive, proactive and preventative) that integrates with the Company's business strategy. This role works closely with a number of the Company's Functions, more specifically, CSR, and Government Relations and entails the security and protection of ABG's staff, its assets, information and reputation including the Exploration business unit. 

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

 Design, implementation and integration of the ABG Security Strategy aligned with the Company's Business Strategy 
• Implementation of a world class Operational Security Model that secures employees and assets 
• Reduction in Security Incidents 
 Assurance and compliance with statutory and voluntary legislations: 
• Host nation rule of law 
• International law including UN conventions; UK Bribery Act; Voluntary Principles of Security (VPS) and Human Rights (HR) 
 Managing information and threats 
• Critical threats identified and managed 
• Critical Threats Register in place, Threats Management Plans in place and being monitored 
 Provide leadership and support in the integration of CSR, Government Relations and Security 
 Theft of company assets 
• Zero losses due to theft 
 Efficient utilization of Surveillance Technology 
• Successful protection of assets through the use of CCTV 
 Provide leadership in security investigations 
• Investigations are conducted proactively, in a professional and dignified manner leading to the successful identification of perpetrators 
• Identification of control gaps in high risk areas 
• Professional handling of investigations of all incidents/accidents, of litigation or reputation nature against the Company as directed by Senior Leadership 
 Compliance to Gold Standards and other Company set standards and procedures 
• Implement a review and governance system to ensure compliance 
 Leadership & Team Membership 
• Lead the Security Team in an effective manner in accordance with the Company's Managerial Leadership practices 
• Ensure that the Security Team is staffed with the people with the right capabilities 

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS 

Education Requirements: 

• Tertiary Qualification in Security or related qualification 

Experience Requirements: 

• At least 15 years experience in Security or related industry 
• At least 7 years managerial experience of which experience in management of Security in the Mining Industry will be an advantage 
• African experience and/or developing Country experience is essential 
• Fire arms and Armory management experience 
• Intelligence and Proactive Detective investigation experience 
• Security Systems experience 
• Knowledge in law (Penal Code) 
• Law enforcement 
• Mining and Processing plants operational knowledge
