Agape AIDS Control Programme (AACP) is a Non-Governmental Organization with her head offices in Shinyanga and it is undertaking different programs among others been Child and youth protection, provision of legal aid services to vulnerable groups, prevention of GBV and early marriages and pregnancies and HIV/AIDS Control and prevention.
Currently, Agape is looking for a qualified and goal oriented candidate to form part of the strong and motivated team by filling the post of Legal Officer. The main purpose of this post is to provide competent legal aid to AACP clients and legal advice to management and staff and to handle all legal matters of the organization and its beneficiaries. To protect and defend the organization beneficiaries from all possible litigation and to provide expert intervention and opinion to properly guide management action in respect of legal matters; the candidate is expected to have proven track record as competent Legal Officer in an NGO environment or community projects.
Legal Officer (LO): Roles and Responsibilities:
· Execute the organization child protection policy and ensures the organization is working in compliance with the national guidelines on child rights and protection
· In collaboration with Agape programme staff, execute the Project Monitoring and Evaluation system/strategy
· Provide legal aid to vulnerable and marginalized communities that are identified as clients of the Organization i.e. victims of child marriages and pregnancies, GBV survivors, abused children, youth and women
· Prepare legal documents for the beneficiaries and assist them with the interpretation and follow up on the reported cases
· Collect data, analyze, document and share all best practices, lessons and results on the project
· Develop and share monthly, quarterly and half yearly progress/monitoring reports and reports to the Programme Coordinator and Director
· Serve as technical advisor to the Project team on legal matters and child protection
· Take active part in the planning, implementation, review and reporting process
· Comply with the Organization Child protection Policy, Gender policy, Statement of Commitment to child protection and adherence to Tanzanian laws and that of our partners (Terre Des Hommes Netherlands and Dutch Government; Women in Law and Development in Africa - WiLDAF)
· Maintain and promote good image of the organization with its associates, including donors, clients, partners and Local Government Authorities
· Conduct Field Works, community mobilization, facilitation and trainings on legal aid services, child protection and human rights
· And any other roles/responsibilities as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor
Qualifications
· Bachelor Degree or Diploma in laws with knowledge on Project Management, monitoring and evaluation;- Mandatory
· Child Protection, Women empowerment, Advocacy and Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) trainings/skills will be an added advantage;-Preferable
· At least 1 year post-admission experience in an NGO sector. Working with community based projects and that of child/youth protection and women empowerment is an added advantage to this post;-Preferable
· Strong computer skills (Word processing, excel, power point, internet), office operations and demonstrated understanding of and experience with Tanzania Child Act of 2009, Child Development Policy, Marriage Act 1971, Gender related national guidelines and policies;- Mandatory.
· Strong oral and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili;-Mandatory
· Excellent data collection, data analysis and evaluation skills;-Mandatory
· Excellent skills on report writing (documentation of programme results, case stories/best practices etc);- Mandatory
