Sandvik Machining Solutions, a world leader in tools and tooling systems for metal cutting, as well as components and high-volume blanks in cemented carbide, has an opening for a Laboratory Technician – Powder Plant at their Westminster facility in South Carolina.
The role
In this key role, the Laboratory Technician – Powder plant, will be responsible for performing comprehensive Metallurgical Quality Control analysis for Product from the Powder and Insert Production facilities, to ensure conformance to documented specifications. Powder & Inserts will be approved based on conformance to these written specifications and documented records and statistics will be kept. All activities must be carried out in a safe manner, following all company EHS guidelines, ensuring all legislation is met.
Key performance areas
- Prepare & Press powder samples for sintering and test / evaluate in preparation for giving recommendation to production.
- Press Final Powder samples and prepare for Sintering.
- Measure properties of Powder and Insert samples.
- Preparation of samples for structure analysis, using all necessary machines/equipment
- Evaluation & Grading of metallurgical structure using microscope.
- Quality assessment of Powder and Insert samples based on analysis, including completion of all documentation & maintenance of the relevant computer systems.
- Investigation of non-conforming powder and recommendations for corrective actions.
- As required provide support for Insert Coating Laboratory and associated activities.
- Provide support & feedback to both Insert and Powder Production to aid continuous Quality improvement.
- Undertake any other Metallurgical Quality Assessment as required.
- Maintain cleanliness and good order in the Laboratory
- Work will be performed mainly in a Laboratory environment, although some activities will be performed in the manufacturing facilities.
- Operation of Hydraulic Press is required.
Your profile
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2-3 years laboratory experience, preferably related to a process, pharmaceutical or food industry.
- Metallurgical skills / experience would be advantageous. Experience of microscope work essential.
- Must be responsible, reliable and able to work on own initiative.
- Must be PC literate, numerate with an excellent attention to detail.
- Must be Team orientated.
- Good oral and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to work assigned shift hours including overtime as scheduled.
- Travel may be required for training purposes.
