DRIVER/MECHANIC - PEACE CORPS TANZANIA

The Driver Mechanic is responsible for driving safely on official business for Peace Corps Tanzania. As a member of Peace Corps Tanzania's motorpool, the Driver Mechanic ensures assigned vehicle(s) are maintained and roadworthy. The duties of this position will sometimes require the incumbent to work beyond normal working hours, and travel extensively throughout Tanzania and occasionally to neighboring countries. This position will be subject to a three-month probationary period.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Safely drive staff, volunteers and guests in official Peace Corps Tanzania vehicles, obey all traffic laws, only drive vehicles which have been checked and cleared as road worthy, and accurately log all vehicle trips in the Vehicle Log Books.
Ensure adequate fuel, Supplies and resources for all trips.

Ensure the security of Peace Corps vehicles by Iocking vehicles and parking vehicles in secure areas.

Perform daily/weekly mechanic checks as per checklist for all aSSigned vehicles. Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs and troubleshooting.

Work as assistant to the Peace Corps Facilities Manager, providing facilities maintenance and repair to Peace Corps Office and Residences.

Other tasks as assigned by the Director of Management &Operation and/or his/her appointee.
Minimum Qualification

Form four certificate with class C driving license; mechanics certificate from a recognized institution; driving and experience of at least 4 years with a clean record are required. Knowledge of roads and towns throughout Tanzania; good spoken English; ability to work with minimal supervision; Able to use word processing and other software would be an added advantage

At least 2 years experience providing maintenance and repairs in plumbing, electrical and general maintenance and repairs
