The Social and Mathematical Epidemiology group (SaME) and one of the group's projects, the STRIVE research consortium, seek a Communications Assistant to support the work of epidemiologists, economists, modellers and social scientists. SaME project teams design and implement research, analysis and evaluation processes in the UK and worldwide, in order to understand and address the social and economic factors – including violence against women and human trafficking – that increase vulnerability to HIV and other health challenges.
SaME is a dynamic research group within the Department of Global Health and development that conducts rigorous, action-oriented research on HIV/AIDS and on interpersonal violence. The team of 42 spans four disciplines: social epidemiology, mathematical modelling, health economics and behavioural science. Alongside numerous shorter studies, SaME leads several long-term programmes including STRIVE and SWIFT. STRIVE is a six-year DFID-funded research consortium addressing the structural factors driving HIV vulnerability, with partners in India, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and the USA. SWIFT (Study on Work in Freedom Transnational Evaluation), also funded by DFID, evaluates interventions to address the worst forms of labour exploitation. SaME is engaged in a number of long term studies of gender violence and health.
The Communications Assistant will support and implement research-uptake strategies and communications activities. S/he will report to the Research Uptake Director and work closely with SaME and STRIVE partner staff and external stakeholders to ensure high quality, fit for purpose communications, in the UK, internationally and specifically across partner countries including India, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.
The major tasks and responsibilities of the post are in the areas of internal and external communications, communications technologies and social media, web maintenance, information management and administrative support.
