Position Description:
The New Product Introduction (NPI) Team Product engineer is a multi-functional role. The Product engineer, reporting to the engineering department, and the NPI Manager. This may be a remote working environment, requiring flexible hours to communicate with Asia-based manufacturers as well as Tanzania-based engineers. The Product Engineer will contribute to several key areas of the company's activities including: new product development, evaluation for DFM, DFT, and introduction into mass production. Reliability is key for our product, so this role carries an important emphasis on quality control. This is a role that requires excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the technical abilities required of a trained engineer.
Key Responsibilities:
• Core team member for Product Development Team, design and prototype build through production quality management.
• Support product development and testing phases through technical research, component and PCBA testing, data collection and analysis, managing external technical resources and oterh related development activities.
• Contribute to analysis of Product designs relative to DF* Criteria (Design-For-Manufacturability, Design-For-Assembly, and Design-For-Test)
• Drive second-sourcing qualification (Approved Vendor List) activities at component level
• Establish effective corrective action plans with vendors and provide guidance for the development and improvement of test methods and processes
• With Engineering and Supplier Quality Engineering, develop Quality Control Plans for manufacturing
• Manage all ECO cut-in / phase in processes for the smooth integration of product changes
• Conduct First-Article Inspections (FAI) on new products and revisions
• Monitor and react to quality and reliability excursions through product life cycle.
• Drive design of fixtures and tooling to support/improve manufacturing productivity & efficiency of products.
• Drive continuous improvement of yields at all relevant logical system and/or PCBA test operations.
• Supervise and facilitate new product introduction (NPI) on location with Asia manufacturer
• Assist in NPI in East Africa
Desired Skills and Experience
Required Qualifications:
• Experience in product development engineering or manufacturing of electrical / electronic assemblies in a global environment
• Knowledge of PCBA and system level manufacturing test processes
• Exposure to Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma methodologies
• Very good verbal and written communication skills ideally
• Knowledge of various troubleshooting and debug methodologies
• Knowledge in DF* methodologies
Desired Qualifications:
• Basic understanding of programming languages
• Lean Manufacturing Experience
• PMI, PMP certification
• Data driven decision making and results orientation
• Ability to travel between 25- 35% of time.
• working knowledge of battery management systems, LED lighting systems, and low voltage power electronics
• working knowledge of Thai and/or Chinese language and culture
• Experience working/traveling in emerging markets or in Africa
Education and Experience:
• BS or MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering is a MUST.
• Intern or 1-3 years experience in design or manufacturing of electronics products
• Experience in PCBA, chassis, electronic systems fabrication, assembly, and/or test required.
