Legal Officer

Legal Officer

EUMETSAT - European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites

Darmstadt, Germany

EUMETSAT is the European satellite agency for monitoring weather and climate. Bringing together the resources of 30 member states, we develop and operate a range of satellite systems surveying the atmosphere, land and ocean that deliver vital data 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our data contribute to weather forecasts that protect lives and property across Europe and to monitoring of our changing climate. EUMETSAT is now embarking on new and challenging satellite development programmes, shaping its long-term future.

Reporting directly to the Head of our Legal Affairs Division, you will provide informed advice on wide-ranging institutional law matters and international civil service law, including German law issues. At the same time, you will participate in the drafting and negotiation of co-operation agreements with our international partners, co-ordinate external legal studies, prepare documents for our Delegate Body meetings, and act as our expert on German labour law.

To join us, you will require a legal degree gained in Germany, preferably backed by a formal qualification in Public International Law. Knowledge of EU, IPR and IT law would be an asset, but more importantly you will have proven experience gained in a legal function within an international organisation. You will also need full fluency in English and German with a good standard of computer literacy, enabling you to draft documents in both languages. Finally, a working command of French would be useful.

Attractive employment conditions are offered, in terms of salary, comprehensive benefits including health and social welfare provision, and extensive relocation assistance if applicable.
