CONTEXT AND PURPOSE OF ROLE:
 To support the Geita Mining Manager in ensuring that the maintenance of the fleet of earthmoving equipment, ancillary equipment and light vehicles is maintained and provided in good condition to the Mining team for production purposes. The ultimate aim of this role is to co-ordinate the activities in the team to maximise uptime and reliability

Accountabilities and Expected Outcomes
By using your leadership position within the organization you will be expected to provide direction to your team in reducing the number of significant hazards in your area of responsibility. Through the use of Aurisk log in your department you will manage the risks that have the potential to injure personnel. Your focus must be on zero Lost Time Injuries for the 2011/2012 production year. You will furthermore be expected to drive the process of conducting PTO's and thereby not only ensure that the correct number of PTO's are completed, but also that the correct quality of PTO's are delivered.Other accountabilities include:
  • Commit your best endeavors and full capability to the work assigned to you by your manager.
  • Advise your manager if you do not understand the work they have assigned to you, or if the assignment does not fit with your knowledge of the circumstances, current skills or available time and resources.
  • Advise your manager of any situations or conditions that could create obstacles to, or opportunities for, the work of the managerial team or company.
  • Demonstrate work behaviours consistent with the company values and work within prescribed boundaries, including required behaviours, company policies, standards, procedures and legislation requirements.
  • Disclose timely information to your manager when accountability cannot be met within limits or can be met with less time or resources than planned.

Standards, Strategy and reliability:
Using strong operational experience and your knowledge of mining equipment to support the Mining Manager in achieving the stated production goals of the organization. Your key accountability to ensure that the Heavy Mining Equipment is maintained according to the AGA standards and that sufficient uptime is delivered to the production teams so that they are able to affect their daily tasks. This will be done by devising and implementing an equipment maintenance strategy to increase both the uptime and the reliability of the machines.
The reliability of the machines will be measured by the Mean Time Between Failure, this number needs to be increased by 10% during the course of 2011/2012, when measured against the baseline of 2010. A large part of this process is going to be in the increase in the planned maintenance to unplanned maintenance ratio. The target for the HME department is 60% of all maintenance interventions should be a planned intervention.

Expected Outcomes
Drive clear accountability within the team for each task, no matter which resources are used, i.e. internal or contractor resources.
Ensure that the teams are adequately trained to achieve the required outputs. In support of this it is necessary to develop a skills matrix which is specifically designed for the HME team. This skills matrix would then be used to tailor make the training programs for each team member.
As the manager of the HME section you will be accountable for the roll-out and implementation of the Requisite Organization in the HME department. You are required to hold  Managerial leadership practices workshops with your team regularly and to promote using the behaviors inherent to the requisite organization.
Develop a talent pool for your department that will be used for training and succession planning. You are to meet with each of your SoR's at least twice per year to formally record their training needs and developments.

Desired Skills and Experience

Required Skills
Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent is essential. It is also necessary for the incumbent to have experience in the engineering management of large earthmoving equipment.
