Occupational Health Adviser
The Organisation

Position Summary
To provide a comprehensive travel health service at TVP and support other occupational health services on an ad hoc basis, including OGUK medicals, absence management and general primary care advice. Needs to be able to conduct clinical tests: venepuncture, immunisations, ECG, lung function, and hearing tests.
To contribute to the review and further development of the travel health services and support the delivery of health initiatives in line with the annual business plan.
Activities to be carried out in line with OH & Wellbeing operational procedures and departmental management systems ensuring professional practice is delivered to the best practice standards.

Key Accountabilities
- To deliver a comprehensive occupational travel health service in line with OH & Wellbeing managements standards and department systems, including; travel health risk assessment advice, travel health education, immunization & chemoprophylaxis, advice & guidance for expatriated & traveling employees who have chronic medical conditions or medical emergencies.
- To maintain good clinical practice for trhe adminstration of vaccines using patient group direction, patient specific direction and informed consent,
- To monitor and evaluatate the service in line with good practice and support the review of clinical guidance and local arrangements.
- To lead in the co-ordination, organisation and dleivery of the annual 'flu clinic.
- To participate in the delivery of an occupational health screening service, including; risk based OH screening and wellbeing education by the OH & Wellbeing dept, advising employee on general health issues.
- To provide other OH nurse services as required, to agreed local arrangements, including; managing self-referral cases with triage as necessary, undertaking specific risk assessments and advise on implementation of hazard control, participate in health promotion campaigns, respond to departments emergencies eg sharps injuries, infection control programme, liaising with GPs and specialists where required and using the PMI where appropriate to facilitate speedy access to care.Escalting cases and incidents to the senior nurse advisers as necessary.
- To work with the OH team leader to proactively raise the profile of Occupational Health and the value it can offer departments and communicate the travel health services through intranet information and other agreed media.
- To ensure timely ordering of occupational sundries for the work area e.g. vaccines, dressings and travel pack sundries in line with the department budget strategy. Ensure that equipment is calibrated, maintained and records/euipment logs kept.
- To ensure the timely recording and reporting of key sets of health information, including health records, department statistics, service delivery and other correspondence.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
- Competent practitioner with experience in a wide range of industries similar to BG Group.
- Experience of providing a range of occupational health services, including travel health assessment, screening and wellbeing.
- Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the NMC register, with preferably a minimum of a Post Graduate Certficate/Diploma in Occupational Health or Travel Health.
- Experience in occupational health practice including travel and fitness for work assessment
- Competent to conduct health surveillance including: audiometry, spirometry and vision screening.
- Able to take blood as part of routine health screening and urine samples for substance misuse testing.
