PURPOSE:
The purpose of this assignment is to provide strategic and technical guidance to a comprehensive health package delivery and ensure sufficient response to the current needs of IDP children and women and vulnerable population in hot areas.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Support UNICEF office in Aleppo to plan, follow-up and assess health & nutrition projects under the regular health programme, Palestinian programme, and the Syria humanitarian assistance response plan (SHARP), and participate in planning the needed situation analysis, reviews and assessments needed for the planning process.
  2. follow-up with the main partners in Aleppo to accelerate the implementation of annual work-plan, SHARP (Syria Humanitarian Assistance Response Plan), and provide technical advice to DOH and other partners in health field with focus on child and maternal health.
  3. Provide support to expand partnership with local NGOs through conducting the needed programmatic assessment, preparing the needed agreements (PCAs) and budget in consultation with health & nutrition section and operation section in Damascus office and Aleppo hub.
  4. Support health & nutrition team in following-up on emergency health & nutrition supplies in Aleppo and suggest a practical tool to assist in monitoring the delivery of those supplies to different districts.
  5. Support acceleration of health & nutrition response through enhancing partnership with SARC and other active NGOs on the ground with focus on partnerships in hard to reach areas of Aleppo governorate.
  6. Conduct field visits and enhance the capacity of UNICEF Hub in Aleppo to follow-up on health & nutrition initiatives in this governorate with focus on reaching vulnerable children.
  7. Participate in the regular meetings of the UN health & nutrition working group in Aleppo, and provide the needed input on UNICEF health & nutrition interventions as needed, and provide technical support/advise on the public health and nutrition issues affecting children and women in this governorate.
  8. Develop quality funding proposals for health & nutrition programme as required, and support in drafting donors' reports on the implemented projects.
  9. Participate in the regular reporting for health & nutrition section and contribute to the biweekly situation report SitRep, and humanitarian bulletin of OCHA in addition to the needed briefings for donors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • University first degree in Public Health, nutrition, paediatrics, family medicine or related fields.
  • Previous experience in health & nutrition emergency response.
  • Excellent communication skills (report writing and presentation), organizational skills and the ability to work in a team, building rapport with individuals to achieve specific organizational or humanitarian goals.
  • Has good leadership and supervisory skills to effectively participate in field missions for different governorates including high-risk areas.
  • Excellent analytical skills: integrates diverse and complex from a wide range of sources to make analytical statements/conclusions to influence decisions.
  • At least 2 years' professional work experience in public health & nutrition, and humanitarian field.
  • Aware of international and UNICEF endorsed technical guidelines on health and nutrition.
  • Able to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Able to work under pressure to meat tight deadlines.
  • Arabic language is a must.
