Working directly collaboratively with clients and with the direction of Design Lab's Director, the Associate Art Director will conceptualize the design and develop a wide range of print and web materials. Typical assignments include client interface, designing publications, logos, brochures, training curricula, kits, posters, and web-based communication. These products will be part of FHI 360's work in areas as health, education, civil society, environment, economic development and research.
Additional Responsibilities: Print Design: Conceptualize and develop print collateral such as newsletters, publications, brochures, covers, reports, information graphics, maps, posters, modules and manuals, curricula, and direct mail Design materials compliant with the Section 508 usability standards Design logos and develop branding materials Conceptualize and design complex, visually compelling information graphics Prepare mock-ups and comps for presentations Prepare mechanicals and print-ready files Excellent knowledge of production process รข€‹
Concept Development: Lead or actively participate in creative brainstorm sessions. Propose innovative approaches to various communications/design assignments. Create prototypes for testing Critique designs based on project strategy Client Service and Project Management Collaborate with clients, build rapport, and nurture productive professional working relationships Articulate project's strategic design direction in client presentations and correspondence Provide technical assistance to clients through the course of a project

The Associate Art Director will also supervise and mentor a junior designer and as a senior member of the team, provide creative counsel to other designers as needed.
Qualifications: Education: Bachelors in one of the following or related fields: Communications and Graphic Design required or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Masters preferred.
Experience: 8 year(s) of relevant experience required
Specific Knowledge Requirements: Must have a strong background in print design, demonstrate an impeccable sense of typography and adeptness with information design. Must have experience supervising and mentoring designers or interns Must have strong client relations and relationship-building skills Highly experienced in project management Must display a strong concept-driven portfolio and exhibit a solid understanding of design principles. Must have familiarity with Section 508 usability standards and be able to design materials that are compliant. Must display strategic thinking and ability to provide critical feedback Must be articulate, innovative and able to actively participate or lead brainstorming and strategic planning sessions. Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software products, and working knowledge of HTML, motion graphics, and video production Must be able to multi-task and thrive in a diverse, fast-paced creative environment. Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment. Illustration, photography and/or experience designing publications in multiple languages a plus
Skills: Must have good balance of conceptualization and production skills. Demonstrated ability to efficiently work with independently and as a team member, prioritize and competently manage a variety of activities with multiple deadlines. Demonstrated ability to professionally interact with and assist clients from initial stages of project through project completion. Ability to nurture client relationships is key. Superior organizational skills and acute attention to detail; ability to learn and apply new skills quickly. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, deadline-driven creative environment.
