POSITION DESCRIPTION:
EQUIP-T is a four-year education programme financed by the Department for International Development (DFID) for the benefit of the Government of Tanzania. EQUIP-T aims to improve education primarily focusing at the council level, working in 36 councils. The focus will be on the integrated development of existing council education systems incorporating school improvement, education governance and management systems. It will aim to develop in these councils an affordable and replicable model for scale-up by government across other councils in Tanzania. The DFID-funded Education Quality Improvement Programme in Tanzania (EQUIP-T) aims to support 25 districts in their efforts to produce a better quality of primary education for more than one million children in over 2,000 primary schools.
We are looking to recruit a professional Driver to provide driving support to the regional teams and technical specialists. This role is integral to the successful delivery of the Programme's goals and objectives and is based in Dodoma
Responsibilities will include:
• Ensuring that all journeys are undertaken with careful and safe driving in line with international driving standards and that checks are made to ensure the safety of passengers in your care.
• Daily vehicle checks and reporting of maintenance needs.
• Keeping accurate vehicle reports including up to date mileage, fuel and maintenance costing.
• Keeping the assigned vehicle in a clean and roadworthy state, ensuring adherence to transport policy on vehicle usage.
• Building and maintaining good working relationships with all staff members.
• On occasions be available for outside standard hours in case of emergency and during missions.
• Ensure compliance with local administrative procedures required in the event of an accident.
• Gather adequate knowledge of the destination and route to ensure customers arrive in good time.
Ideal candidates will have the following experience, qualifications and training:
• A valid driving license which you have held for at least 3 years.
• Certified professional driving training (desirable).
• Be fluent in English and Kiswahili.
• Demonstrative defensive driving skills (in town and on dirt roads).
• Excellent communication skills, willingness to be flexible in contribute to other tasks.
• Basic routing maintenance and vehicle handling.
• Excellent knowledge of the city and major motorways in Tanzania.
• Previous experience in working within a multi-national team or project environment is highly desirable.
• Simiyu resident (desirable).
