Kissito Healthcare International (KHI) is a US based not for profit organization working in four countries in East Africa with the goal of saving life and human development. The organization has a proven track record of success in Health and Nutrition in East Africa. Our large-scale Health Systems Strengthening initiatives in Africa are transforming entire regions through partnerships with government designed to address health and nutrition. Our Partners in Service programs function in 195 hospitals/health facilities in South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Uganda. To date, we have treated over 600,000 patients, and safely delivered over 17,000 babies. The organization has been actively engaged in the areas of emergency nutrition, health system strengthening, communicable disease prevention and control, hospital construction, operation and management. Location: Pibor County, Jonglei State Position Overview: Under the supervision of the country programs director, the Nutrition Project Manager shall provide and support coordination of KHI's field program team with technical support and expertise in the effective management of its health and nutrition Projects. The post holder will work in close collaboration with the state health and nutrition clusters, WFP, UNICEF, SMOH and other significant partners/stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: • Managing the overall implementation of the nutrition components of Kissito Healthcare International (KHI) emergency health and nutrition projects in all areas of operation in Jonglei state • Create a shared vision, among all staff, of KHI's Program objectives and their role in achieving set goals. • Provide input toward developing KHI's long term strategic plans and translating these into mid and short terms actions • Support the development of program concepts and documents in line with participatory approaches at community level • Participate in developing KHI's emergency preparedness capacity in relation to the humanitarian context and advise the country head office accordingly • Ensuring compliance to KHI, Donor, and MOH/National policies, procedures and guidelines that relate to: program (monitoring, reports, evaluations e.t.c) health, finances, logistical and human resource development. This involves adherence to TOR and MOU with the MOH and program targets as outlined in the program document. • Providing on the job supervisory support to nutrition program staff ensuring correct application of criteria(admission, discharge and referencing),nutritional protocols, introduction of modifications, and medical protocols(systematic and curative) • Ensuring proper application of program supplies and equipment, ensuring maintenance of adequate stock levels, and timely requisition of supplies using specified tools and systems. • Supervision of staff interaction with beneficiaries ensuring proper handling and patient care practices. • Conducting regular staff evaluation for capacity building purposes providing the country head office with recommendations on areas of training support. • Providing lead technical support for recruitment of program staff including conducting interviews and evaluation of prospective staff. • Organizing for and delivering in-service training for MOH/Program staff with support from KHI country office. • Contributing to designing and effectively implementation of community mobilization/sensitization strategy for use in enhancing the performance of community based approaches to nutrition management by ensuring partner community mobilization staff are able to deliver appropriate and consistent health and nutrition education messaging to mothers and other caregiver at IMAM sites and in the community • Participating in development of nutrition protocols and material and translate these into action at field level. This involved dissemination of information on new approaches and trends in the integrated management of acute malnutrition (IMAM) and providing input into developing the organization's plan of action and implementation at field/site level. Supporting the health and nutrition team at the field/ site level in fulfillment of their duties according to program design; in particular providing supervision, direction and mentoring to National staffs, CHD and NGO partner's medical staff, ensuring program quality to relevant internationally recognized standards. • Ensuring that appropriate systems and plans are in place for dealing with emergencies, and providing leadership for staff and volunteers in emergencies. • Establishing systems and standards for assessment and monitoring /evaluation of programs. • Providing support for nutrition surveillance at health facilities assisting MOH staff with timely and accurate reporting to relevant CHD, SMOH, Cluster, national offices and Donors. • Enhancing supply management at county/state level through tracking of supplies movement and timely requisition through the state/county/zonal offices to enable efficient service delivery including facilitating systematic/correct supply requests, distribution plans, consumption reporting to donors. • Supporting CHD/SMOH in organizing regular coordination meetings at county/state level. • Ensuring there are regular documented meetings for all key staff to discuss and plan program objectives and work plans. • Represent KHI at State/county health and nutrition coordination meetings, and participate in nutrition working groups for policy formation as appropriate; • Undertake any other duty assigned by the immediate supervisor or his/her designate.
Qualifications • Bachelors degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Nursing preferably masters degree in public health with clinical background • A minimum of three (3) years of NGO experience in similar context • Extensive experience of implementing CMAM • Proven problem solving and organizational skills • Diplomatic and an effective communicator at all levels • Supportive personnel management style and ability to manage teams • Strong leadership skills • Fluent written and spoken English. • Computer skills Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience and earning history.
