We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer as we scale and grow our technology in East Africa and throughout other developing countries. We expect our team to have fun with new innovations and ideas and to be a key contributor as we grow.
About the Role:
• Work closely with Lead Software Architect and/or Kenya technical teamin the design of strategic solutions for high market impact and penetration
• Lead the deployment and delivery of solutions using primarily agile development techniques
• Responsible for developing solutions that satisfy clients not only in East Africa but can be transferred throughout the continent of Africa
• Expected to lead a single piece of work, or several streams according to business needs. This will include closely working with other internal design groups, development or 3rd parties to deliver game-changing innovations
• Take a lead role in applications design, database design, data-flows and detailed technical design in collaboration with the Lead Software Architect and/or Kenya technical team
• Responsible for presenting solutions to team and partners
• Go above and beyond users' needs and expectations to deliver solutions to help our users grow and become thrivingindependent entrepreneurs in Africa
• Provide expert technical consultancy to partners
• Responsible for scheduling timely delivery of solutions
• Willing to innovate, experiment and fail fast to build robust solutions
• Scoping the market for new talent
• Mentor and direct junior developers
The technical stuff:
• Our most important technical requirement is learning how to figure things out
• Significant commercial experience of internet application development, to include a proven understanding of browser behavior and issues
• Experience in building/deploying/overseeing high traffic/high load applications
• A full understanding of web application security
• An excellent understanding of application design and architecture, including database interactions, server side scripting, form handling and general application development.
• Significant commercial experience of internet and networking technologies and protocols, including HTTP, TCP, IP, SMSC, SMPP
• Commercial experience of using Agile development methods across a number of teams, automated builds and continuous integration
• Significant commercial experience of OO development and design patterns
• Experience in using or writingtest automation drivers
• Significant experience of designing and developing web solutions using open source technologies, including Linux, Apache, MySQL, PYTHON, PHP, XML, XSLT, CSS, XHTML, Javascript Frameworks
• Experience in Node JS
• Proven experience of Web Services (Rest/SOAP)
