With the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals last year, UNOPS wants to further its leadership position by expanding its ability to embed sustainable thinking into the procurement processes of its partners and clients, which include other UN agencies, development organizations, and governments around the globe. To do this, UNOPS will develop a global consulting roster of sustainable procurement experts, for its advisory services offering.

After undergoing a rigorous selection process which includes a competency based assessment and an interview, successful candidates will be placed in the roster as Senior Advisors. Placement in the roster does not guarantee an engagement. However, when engagements become available, Senior Advisors will be reviewed and, if found suitable and available, offered a placement through a direct selection process.
Typically, Senior Advisors are engaged for periods from two weeks to three months and may be required to travel to some of the locations where we work:

• Latin America and the Caribbean (Argentina, Peru, Mexico, Haiti, Uruguay etc.);
• Middle East (Jordan, occupied Palestinian territory, Iraq, etc.);
• Africa (Kenya, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, etc.);
• Asia (Maldives, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, etc.).

Functional Responsibilities

Senior Advisors will work closely with UNOPS personnel in the project location to assess and address institutional capacity challenges of clients and partners through a variety of initiatives, delivering results that matter. Some of the typical functional responsibilities you could be expected to perform might include any (or a combination) of the below. Importantly, as engagements will differ from client to client, the following is only a sample of potential work items.

• Conducting sustainable procurement opportunity assessments to improve the social, environmental and economic impacts of the procuring entity, throughout its entire value chain, including:
• Internal client or regulatory policy reviews to identify barriers and opportunities for enhanced sustainability (as defined by social, environmental and economic parameters)
• Supplier and/or supply chain sustainability assessments and benchmarking
• Market research/studies of the sustainability maturity for individual product or service markets
• Hot spot analyses of product categories to identify key sustainability impacts, risks and opportunities, and the development of action plans to address these
• Development of sustainable procurement tools and guidelines

NOTE: Detailed terms of reference with direct reporting lines will be issued when engaged for specific projects.
