SADC WEBSITE CONTENT OFFICER

Background

German Development Cooperation through GIZ is supporting SADC to develop capacities for strengthening National Regional Linkages through enhanced service delivery to key regional institutions including the Secretariat and Member States in order to effectively drive the regional integration agenda. Creating a robust awareness raising and knowledge sharing platform for SADC Member States is critical for the success for the region. Development, management and maintenance of a well maintained website will be a crucial tool in the support. GIZ is therefore looking for a creative, motivated and hands-on expert to manage and maintain the content of SADC Website on regular basis. The successful candidate will be seconded to the Secretariat to support the SADC Secretariat achieve its objectives in this regard.

Purpose

Given the critical role of internet-based communications, the purpose of this position is to identify, develop and manage relevant and approved content for the SADC website – www.sadc.int. The Website Content Officer will work in close collaboration with the ICT Unit and other SADC Directorates and will also assist the SADC Secretariat Webmaster with the technical aspects of the website. Specifically, the SADC Website Content Officer shall assist in uploading content and documents on the website. The position will source, edit and publish content.

Objectives of the job

The position will:
  • Ensure that the Web Site is current and accurate providing 'real time' SADC news service on important activities undertaken by the Secretariat;
  • Ensure that the SADC website publishes news and key documents (policies and Council decisions) as and when they happen to reach users;
  • Assist the Secretariat in effectively using existing communication strategy and policy documents;
  • Control content to ensure high quality, accurate and factual reporting of news items and events while ensuring that all documents meet established content standards;
  • Assist the Secretariat to explain and build regional cooperation and integration through timely information management on the SADC website and related links.

Scope of the work to be performed

The position will:
  • Provide content sourcing, editing and publishing to promote the work of the Secretariat including programmes and activities;
  • Highlight SADC regional integration success stories to make people aware of the positive impact of regional integration;
  • Ensure dissemination of updated information on SADC programmes through SADC website in dose coordination with SADC Directorates;
  • Monitor and Quality Assure the development of site content;
  • Keep abreast with the latest developments on SADC activities and initiatives and upload relevant content including reports, press releases;
  • Regularly upgrade site by updating content, graphics and linkages;
  • Maintain site through sourcing, editing and publishing stories from Directorates, Units and Member States. Liaise with and assist Directorates, Units and Member States to research, edit and publish news and current affairs on the SADC website;
  • Maintain and refresh content pages, news items and documents;
  • Act and liaise as the central focus point for website content development;

Key skill requirements

  • Degree in Information management, communication and journalism;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in web site content management;
  • Demonstrated editing and proofreading expertise in writing for the web;
  • Expertise in media content and communication management.
