The Africa Biogas Partnership Programme (ABPP) is a partnership between Hivos and SNV in supporting national programmes on domestic biogas in five African countries. Our overall objective is to formulate, develop and set in motion strategies, plans, measures, systems and approaches that support private sector led biogas sector development aimed at sustainable improvement of the livelihoods of rural and peri-urban households.

ABPP is seeking a mature, self-motivated individual willing to join in building a strong national biogas brand to boost the dissemination of top-quality biogas products and services in Kenya.

The Business Development and Marketing Manager reports to the Programme Manager Kenya and has responsibility for all the Business Development and Marketing functions. S/he develops and implements client- and result-driven business models, marketing and branding strategies aimed at achieving optimal biogas -technology and national brand- awareness and increased sales/distribution of biogas products and services in Kenya. S/he will work closely with other team members to develop the programme, its mission, brand and biogas sector support programmes.

Key responsibilities:

Market Development:
• Analyses potential strategic partner relationships
• Establish and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders including cooperatives and financial institutions linking them to biogas construction enterprises.
• Develop solutions to build effective distribution channels and effectively share and manage accounts with other actors in the sector.

Marketing and Promotions:
• Develop the programmes Marketing and communications strategy
• Develop a brand identity for the biogas sector in collaboration with the leadership team and other stakeholders in the sector.
• Develop annual marketing plan, deliver all marketing activities, materials and online presence within agreed budget
• Manages all aspects of marketing materials production and event participation

Capacity Development:
• Work closely with small to medium size biogas construction enterprises to develop sustainable business best practices in the area of promotions, sales and sales operations.

Develop and achieve "Top of Mind Awareness" & "Intention to Purchase" targets

Develop appealing communication to build the national biogas brand and stimulate increased demand.
Participates generally as a member of the programme's management team, assisting in development of the programme's strategic agenda, annual operating plans and budgets, and programme annual targets.

Requirements:

• BA in Business Economics, Marketing or related discipline (A business related Master's degree will be an advantage)
• 5 years of relevant working experience in business development, sales and marketing, in commercial and/or social enterprises, preferably in the renewable energy sector.
• Proven experience in building and managing sales channels resulting in increased revenue.
• Experience in brand development and implementing marketing programmes.
• Experience in developing small to medium size enterprises and distribution channels in rural context.
• Experience in climate-smart energy programmes, business modelling and entrepreneurship, gender mainstreaming and governance is an added advantage.
• Relationships with large agriculture cooperatives and/or financial institutions a plus.
• Knowledge, skills and abilities in: marketing and sales operations; current challenges and opportunities in climate-smart energy; client management and project management; customer centric approach; work autonomously with limited direction.

• Strong network in the private sector (Renewable Energy, Agriculture and/or other relevant subsectors) in Kenya.
• Willingness to intensively travel in Kenya

Contract Duration: 1 year (renewable)

Salary Scale: We offer a competitive package based on qualifications and experience
