The Forum for integration and promotion of the law unit (DP_FORUM)
In the frame of the International Law and Policy department's ambition to promote international humanitarian law (IHL) and other relevant norms, as well as related policies and positions, and in order to respond to the ICRC need to assert its leadership in several key areas, the unit "Forum for the integration and promotion of the law" (DP_FORUM) implements promotion strategies acting as a channel between the department and the outside world. Relying on the expertise and substance developed within the Department's divisions the unit:
- develops and maintains a solid digital learning capability providing actors of influence with a comprehensive online training offer complementary to onsite courses firstly centered on IHL, other relevant norms, related policies and positions, including those dealing more broadly with humanitarian action; and
- offers tools and platforms enabling academic research and debate addressing topics related to the mentioned areas of focus.
DP_FORUM is offering a one-year paid traineeship. Under the supervision of the Online Solutions Specialist, the intern will contribute to the creation of multimedia e-learning modules and new digital dissemination resources by providing techno-pedagogical support.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Creation of multimedia e-learning modules
- Contribute to the development of back-end e-learning modules and user-interfaces (UX)
- Support the development of new multimedia e-learning modules by creating HTML5 structures, behavior and workflow
- Research on new e-learning design and technology solutions and contribute to identifying the technical means and support needed to further develop the unit's e-learning offer
- Implement interactive elements (interactive infographics, quizzes, drag & drop) in e-learning modules.
Creation of digital dissemination resources
- Support the production of HTML5 based web-apps (e-books, interactive web-documentaries, presentations etc.)
- Assist in the drafting of technical documentation
Required training and experience:
- University degree or equivalent in learning/teaching or information technologies (educational technology, e-learning, interactive multimedia, web design).
- Practical experience with coding/designing web-applications, preferable web-applications for mobile devices.
- Practical experience in implementing e-learning projects, experience with authoring tools (e.g. Articulate, Adobe Captivate, or Scenari Opale) an advantage
- Understanding of HTML5 technologies (CSS3, JavaScript, JQuery, HTML), other programming languages such as PHP, an advantage.
Desired skills and profile:
- Good understanding of English and/or French
- Interest for e-learning, open-source technologies and projects
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Sense of initiative
- Interest in humanitarian law and humanitarian action an advantage
Duration: 1 year
Starting date: 1 April 2015
