Context/Scope:
Context:

  • Moshi brewery is one of three manufacturing units within Serengeti Breweries ltd (SBL); and is situated in the Lakes area of Tanzania.
  • SBL has recently been 51% acquired by EABL a subsidiary of Diageo PLC; and is undergoing an Integration with Diageo currently.
  • This will involve attaining the highest standards in the areas of cost, quality, customer service and flexibility.
  • The ongoing improvement and change agenda offers opportunity for development and contribution from all roles.
  • The Brewing Manager role reports to the Site Brewery manager .

Dimensions:

  • Responsible for delivery of customer service, quality and cost targets in brewing production – delivered within Diageo and relevant external risk and compliance standards.
  • Brewing teams will require support to analyse barriers to maximum performance, prioritise and deliver sustainable solutions to problems.
  • Key to delivery of performance is joint partnership working between employees, relevant union bodies, strategic supplier partners and management. This objective requires active support from this role.
  • Performance management of Brewing site personnel
Market Complexity
  • The brewery has a c0.55m Hl capacity producing all beer types and multiple SKU's for sale domestically and for export market to other EABL markets.
  • The brewery will produce Tusker, Serengeti premium lager, Senator, Uhuru & Kick.
  • The brewery works closely with third party suppliers to ensure raw materials, utilities, facilities and external services are delivered to meet requirements.
Leadership Responsibilities 
  • This role will take a lead role in recruiting and developing the entire Brewing team.
  • Leadership and responsibility for resource management of the Brewing teams which operate and care for production assets from raw materials intake to BBT.
  • Leadership of Brewing teams.
  • Leading the pursuit of brewing excellence & roll out of Diageo way of brewing
  • Lead structured prioritization and project management of brewery strategy implementation, initiatives, and improvement plans.
  • Implementing and managing processes that support LTO / Diageo Risk Standards and external regulatory requirements.
  • Developing strong relationships with key stakeholders in Diageo technical community and third parties.

Purpose of Role

  • The role is responsible for leading the Brewing teams to deliver operational excellence in meeting the sites production targets, providing customer service on time in full and implementing asset care activities

Key Accountabilities 

    • Manage the production of all brands as required to meet customer service commitments and Diageo quality standards.
    • Ensure that the use of raw materials and consumption of utilities during the brewing process is optimized
    • Develop positive relationships with all team members & direct reports, trade unions, and wider site team.

  • Qualifications and Experience Required
    • Applied science / engineering degree or equivalent experience.
    • IBD Associate/Master Brewer qualification / equivalent, or demonstrate significant brewing competence.
    • Understanding of commercial and customer service implications of production and supply chain management.
    • Knowledge of brewing, engineering and statistical process control.
    • Knowledge of world class manufacturing techniques, standards and systems.
    • High interpersonal effectiveness to develop and sustain robust relationships.
    • Structured problem evaluation and solving skills.
    • Management of people performance and development.
    • Change management skills and abilities.
    • 3 years experience in technical competence area with further 2 years responsibility for managing production teams in a food/drink industry environment.
    • Experience in establishing framework of standards and compliance systems.
    • Experience of leading and implementing change.
    • Experience of project management.
