Title of the position: Network Financial Officer
The EAGLE Network is looking for professionals with some experience of living, travelling or working in Africa. We are looking for individuals with strong personal engagement and internal motivation to effect change in Africa through activism, fighting wildlife crime and corruption.
The four permanent positions – Monitoring & Evaluation, Financial, Investigations Support and Organizational Development officers form a newly created Central Coordination Unit. Positions are based in Nairobi with frequent long missions in Central and West Africa. Salaries are modest.
The EAGLE Network operates in 8 African countries where it carries wildlife law enforcement operations that brought more than 1,000 traffickers to prison.

Description of the position
The Financial Officer is a permanent position in the Central Coordination Unit. His/her monitoring and validation is both monthly and ad-hoc with missions to Member operations as required. Financial and technical inspections are linked because they are used to check the progress and efficiency of projects based on agreed budgets and expenditure incurred.
On a monthly basis all members are required to produce and send to the Central Coordination Unit (CCU) a Finance & Accounting report, which will include
• Monthly income and expenditure reports, with detailed accounting information
• Monthly reconciliation
• Other information as detailed in the Management Procedure Manual
The monthly financial reports are critical for monitoring and verifying Members' information. Additionally, annual missions are organized for all Network Members to verify the accuracy of information provided.
Specifically the Financial Officer is to review and verify the following:
1. Monthly financial report is online the 7th of the following month and the final version is online by the 21st of the following month
2. If there are any discrepancies between the 7th and the 211st financial accounts
3. If there are errors in the accounting based on audit standards;
4. Advises Network Members where changes are required, verifying that the report published online complies with discussions and agreements made
Additional duties are:
1. Check adherence to systems and procedures being followed against the Management Procedure Manual
2. Improve systems and procedures on a cyclical basis
3. Document shortcomings, inconsistencies, lack of results, quality gaps, reporting delays and consistently repeated errors. Then following the procedure as required, specified in the "Reporting & Verification Procedure"
4. Compare any failings in the Internal Control Systems
5. Develop a summary table of criteria and measurable indicators as required to facilitate financial inspections
6. Undertake Inspection Missions as required to inspect, rectify and improve the performance of the Network Member, including producing a report with recommendations and follow up support required
