ED&F Man is one of the worlds' most successful and established agricultural commodity trading businesses, one of our core commodities is Coffee where we manage a range of assets in origin countries across the globe.

With growing businesses in Kenya and Tanzania we are looking for talented individuals with existing knowledge of the agri-commodities sector to become part of our commercial team.

The specific requirement is for an Assistant Manager to work alongside our General Managers supporting the day to day running and on-going strategic development of our businesses.

This is an exciting opportunity to learn about the coffee business and how to lead and run a business, the successful candidate will become part of the management team and develop both business and leadership skills and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the General Manager with all aspects of staffing, financial management and operational requirements of the warehousing, logistics and distribution.
  • Provide input to the business strategy, operations and people management.
  • Help ensure a safe working environment for staff and all stake holders.
  • Trading administration (contract entry, maintaining positions, updating databases).
  • Sourcing Coffee and handling customer base.
  • Develop sustainable supply chains.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experienced in soft commodities
  • Commercial acumen with the enthusiasm and drive to expand our sales into new markets and increase our customer base
  • Customer focussed with a passion for ensuring customer satisfaction for existing relationships as well as seeking to expand the market and initiate new business.
  • Experience of logistics, field extension service, warehouse operations & quality control: an ability to work across all of these areas improving procedures, personnel capacity, taking full responsibility for outcomes for selected areas
  • Excellent communication skills and a can do attitude
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity to different attitudes and behaviours
  • Robust resilient character with the ability to work autonomously and confidently.
  • Knowledge of financial management and managing budgets
  • Practical experience in working with sustainable supply chains would be beneficial.
  • Experienced at working and living in Africa
  • Swahili would be advantageous
