ScanSource Europe is seeking to recruit a Legal Counsel, EMEA for its European operations. This is a unique opportunity for further professional growth in an international business environment. The position may be based in Brussels (Belgium), Cologne (Germany) or Egham (UK).

In this role there will be responsibility for managing and advising ScanSource senior management on a broad range of pan-European corporate and commercial legal issues including the following:
  • Commercial contract matters: Review, drafting, and negotiating Distributor and Reseller Agreements under English law;
  • Employment law issues in multiple European jurisdictions (primarily in Germany, Belgium and the UK);
  • Corporate law (managing corporate governance in multiple European jurisdictions including Belgium, Germany, UK, France, the Netherlands and Italy);
  • A whole host of other issues including:
    • Creditor's rights and collections:
    • EU regulatory compliance (in particular European environmental law):
    • Private international law issues (conflicts of law):
    • Real estate (managing the European property portfolio);
    • Litigation (coordinate and assist in representation of the company in legal disputes);
    • Insurance;
  • Obtaining the best value from external legal providers across Europe by effective relationship management.
A remuneration and benefits package will be offered that is commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position will report directly to the Head of Legal, EMEA.

Essential Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from an accredited law school;
  • Qualified lawyer in one of the EU Member States with a current practising certificate;
  • Over four years post qualification international legal experience;
  • Ability to travel internationally, often at very short notice.

Desirable Experience and Specialized Skills:

  • Previous in house experience an advantage as is experience managing pan European legal issues related to commercial contracts, employment laws, and subsidiary corporate governance;
  • Risk management experience including reviewing company practices and policies and advising on potential risks by way of commercial practical legal advice on the conduct of company business to all levels of management;
  • A strong commercial business sense and ability to work autonomously and ethically;
  • Pro-active and flexible mind-set, stress resistant and a quick learner with a willingness to take on new challenges and responsibilities at short notice.

Languages:

  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively in oral and written English is essential. Other languages are a distinct advantage (in particular German).
