Biodiversity conservation specialist
Chemonics seeks a long-term biodiversity conservation specialist for the anticipated USAID-funded Promoting Tanzania's Environment, Conservation, and Tourism (PROTECT) activity that will address threats to biodiversity conservation and promote private sector-led tourism. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate overall management, implementation, and monitoring of the combatting wildlife poaching and trafficking component of PROTECT
  • Foster an enabling environment for civil society and government collaboration to eradicate illegal wildlife use by building technical capacity to address wildlife poaching and trafficking
  • Support legislative measures to implement policies
  • Increase judicial efficacy in the wildlife enforcement sector
Qualifications:
  • ​Advanced degree in environmental or ecological sciences, environmental law and enforcement, wildlife conservation, or related field
  • Minimum eight years of experience in wildlife protection and conservation including combating wildlife trafficking
  • Knowledge of managing and improving wildlife conservation activities, protected area management including community-based conservation, and wildlife laws and policies
  • Experience working with protected area authorities and wildlife ministries
  • Minimum five years of experience working in East Africa required; recent experience working in Tan​zania highly preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
