Trainee for the Program on Access to Natural Resources

The position is 100% and based at FIAN International Secretariat in Heidelberg, Germany. FIAN is the international human rights organization for the right to adequate food.

FIAN is an international human rights organization that has advocated for the realization of the right to adequate food for more than 25 years. FIAN's mission is to expose violations of people's right to food wherever they may occur. We stand up against unjust and oppressive practices that prevent people from feeding themselves.

FIAN's work on access to natural resources aims to increase national and international awareness for the lack of or insecure access to land and other related resources, and to analyze the issue from a human rights perspective. Apart from contributing towards resolving concrete cases of human rights violations, FIAN aims to develop additional human rights protection standards for individuals, groups or communities threatened by landlessness and forced evictions, particular in the current wave of land grabbing. FIAN works closely with rural social movements.

Duties:

• Support the coordinator of FIAN's program on access to natural resources at the international secretariat
• Contribute to documenting cases of right to food violations related to access to natural resources (resource conflicts, land and water grabbing, evictions, concentration of natural resources, discriminatory policies, etc.)
• Support research and drafting of reports, articles, position papers etc. on subjects that fall under the program
• Support rural social movements through various networks such as the Global Campaign for Agrarian Reform, the IPC working group on land and territory and the Global Network for the Right to Food and Nutrition
• Support FIAN's advocacy work at international level
• Contribute to overall organizational priorities

Profile:

The ideal candidate is a professional and activist who has knowledge and is interested in human rights work, in particular the right to food and nutrition, and in the field of land and other natural resources. The candidate should have strong interpersonal, communication and coordination skills, as well as work well in collaborative processes, especially between international organizations, networks and grassroots groups.

Requirements:

• Master's degree in Human Rights, Political Science, Social Studies, Agrarian Studies, Law or related field-or equivalent experience
• Strong analytical skills. Experience in documentation of cases and human rights analysis is highly appreciated
• Fluency in English and French. Additional languages such as Spanish are an asset
• Experience and relationships with human rights organizations and rural social movements are an asset
• Experience with project management is an asset
