PROJECT DIRECTOR OF NEWLY ESTABLISHED BRITISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE UNDER AUSPICES OF THE BRITISH BUSINESS GROUP OF TANZANIA (BBG)
The British Business Group (BBG) is looking for a dynamic self starter with extensive business experience and contacts to be the Project Director of a new British Chamber of Commerce (BCC) initiative. The successful person will report to the Board of Directors of BCC who will be nominated by BBG. This is part of a new initiative between the BBG and the British High Commission to develop services and assistance to UK companies looking to invest and trade in Tanzania.

The Role:
The successful candidate will be instrumental in helping to establish and lead the new BCC initiative by providing leadership, strategic vision and overall direction to the Chamber, through identification, evaluation and development of new lines of business and strategic trade, investment and economic opportunities for UK businesses, including SME's in Tanzania.
S/he will also provide high-level business judgement for steering the BCC in achieving its short term and long term performance targets and be fully accountable for the revenue, profits and business targets of the entity as a whole.
The job is full time, with exact working arrangements, to be agreed between the Board of BCC and the candidate. The successful candidate will be employed by the BCC but will also be required to report to the British High Commission.
Key Aspects of the role:
· Execute and implement decisions of the Board of BCC.
· Liaise with relevant government officials and departments.
· Foreign relations work.
· Promote UK businesses abroad.
· Co-ordinate the activities of the BCC and BBG
· Develop a high profile within the business community.
· Provide leadership and direction to promote British business in Tanzania.
· Advocate for improvements in the local legal, regulatory, tax and business environments for the benefit of UK businesses working in Tanzania.
Responsibilities / Accountabilities
· Develop the long term strategy and vision for the BCC.
· Develop and recommend to the Board annual business plans and budgets (capital and operating expenditure) that complement and support the Chamber's short and long term strategies.
· Ensure that strategic directions given by the Board are adhered to fully and promptly.
· Ensure that investment and key financial decisions of the Board are fully, promptly and properly carried out.
· Provide due support to the Board, whenever called up on, in arriving at balanced and objective decisions, including active participation in all aspects of the BCC.
· Coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Board.
· Strive consistently to achieve the financial and operating goals and objectives of the Chamber.
· Identify, evaluate and develop new lines of business for the BCC, in accordance with the BCC's vision and strategy.
· Ensure that the day-to-day business affairs of the BCC and BBG are adequately monitored and managed, including all staff.
· Ensure that the BCC has an effective, result-oriented team that actively participates and contributes to the development of the management function and addresses succession planning.
· Ensure that the Board is kept fully informed about the BCC's operational and financial performance through monthly reports.
· Monitor and manage the performance of their direct reports.
· Coordinate the activities of the BBG and assist in the secretarial and administration work of BBG.
Required Skills:
The successful candidate will need to have good communication skills, initiative, attention to detail, a flexible hands-on approach and be a good team player. A bachelor's degree or professional qualification is desired.
Desired Experience:
· Knowledge and experience of dealing with Government departments and officials
· Experience of foreign relations work
· Experience of promotion of UK business abroad would be beneficial
· Particular knowledge and experience of the Tanzania and East Africa Market
