Social Media - Project Manager(for Kiswahili Speaking Countries)
Job Specification
To work as part of the Social Media section at the Al Jazeera Network. This job position will focus on implementing the Social Media strategy across all the channels within the Al Jazeera Network, with a key focus on Africa (Kiswahili speaking countries).
This role entails working closely with the newsrooms and programmes department to understand their requirements in the context of their current workflow and to present them with feasible solutions.
The ideal candidate must be able to lead projects from inception stage right through to completion and support.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Generate new content from the Al Jazeera audience by developing relationships with citizen reporters/NGO’s
Utilise Social Networks as a means to find new content and sources for the newsroom
Gain valuable feedback & ideas from potential viewers & contributors
Use Social Media to reach out to new audiences (younger demographic & cross-cultures)
Ability to analyze data from various social networks and produce weekly reports
Build a community around the Al Jazeera brand
Continually investigating new services for Social Media and assessing their viability in the light of budgets & resources
Ability to train Al Jazeera staff on how to effectively utilise online social networks
Working on new innovative projects to explore ways in which to introduce the AlJazeera brand into new markets
Project management to implement Social Media strategy across specific channels with in the Al Jazeera network
Person Specification
Essential Skills
Good background knowledge in New Media
Experience in using online social media/new media tools
Good understanding of online communities and online trends
Must be technically competent and also acquire project/services related skills
Must have a good understanding of online media
Strong communications skills to interface with newsrooms, web teams, Legal and commercial divisions etc.
Ability to influence leaders in understanding new technologies and identifying the impact new tools have on the news business
Strong presentation and classroom training skills. This is important when educating staff about new services
Must have extensive experience in utilizing social networks in both a personal and professional capacity
English is a must and the ability to communicate in Kiswahili
Working Experience
2 years or more working in a news/media/online organization.
At least 1 year of extensive experience in the field of Social Media or 1 year experience in working with grass-roots initiatives/NGO’s
Ideal candidate will have executed successful projects in a large organisation with little supervision.
Academic / Education Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience (2years +) in the field of digital media or working on community related initiatives
