The East African Health Research Commission (EAHRC) is an Institution of the East African Community (EAC) established by the 5th Extra-Ordinary Summit of the EAC Heads of State on 18th June 2007. The EAHRC has been established as a mechanism for making available to the community, advice upon all matters of health and health related research and findings necessary for knowledge generation, technological development, policy formulations, practices and related matters. The vision of the Commission is high quality research for improvement of the health and well-being of the people of the community; its mission is to coordinate and promote the conduct of health research; to source, gather and disseminate the findings for the purpose of policy formulations.
The EAHRC is looking for highly motivated and result-driven professionals who are citizens of East African Community Partner States (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda) to apply for the following short term positions tenable at East African Health Research Commission.

Job reports to: Executive Secretary

Job Purpose:

The Administrative Assistant will assist the EAHRC Executive Secretary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Executive Secretary, the Administrative Assistant shall perform the following basic administrative functions:-
  1. Administration, including maintaining records and files
  2. Human Resources, including maintaining attendance and leave records
  3. Procurement, including getting quotations and tracking deliveries
  4. Preparing purchase requisitions, travel authorization and provide information on financial issues
  5. Finance, including managing petty cash vouchers and preparing direct payment requests
  6. Office Management, including stock control; and
  7. Any other tasks as directed by the Executive Secretary – EAHRC

Qualifications and Experience:

Academic and Professional Qualifications
University Degree or similar qualifications desirable.
Working Experience
  1. Five years working experience
  2. Experience with computers or non-formal IT experience.
  3. Experience working in an office environment, ideally clerical experience.
  4. Previous experience in administration and finance related activities advantageous.

Skills and Competencies:

Competencies
  1. Good written and spoken English is essential
  2. Honest and trustworthy
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  4. Proficiency in ICT

The suitable candidate should have the following attributes: strategic thinking, achieves results, team player, exemplifies personal drive and integrity, cultivates productive working relationships, communicates effectively.

Education Qualifications and Relevant Working Experience:

Education Qualifications
All candidates applying must have qualifications that are recognized by the relevant national accreditation body in their respective countries. This condition is applicable for locally and internationally attained qualifications.
All professions that require registration with the specific professional bodies will be expected to do so in compliance with the requirements of their respective Partner States.
Relevant Working Experience
Internship, training, apprenticeship and clerkship will not be considered as relevant work experience.

Terms and Conditions of Service:

The successful candidate shall hold office for a short term contract of two (2) months running from April to 31st May 2016.
