CHEF - BRITISH HIGH COMMISSION , TANZANIA
The British High Commission invites applications for the position of Chef. The position is full time and based in Dar es Salaam.

The Chef will have overall responsibility to plan and create menus for the High Commissioner as well as any official events. The Chef will be to manage the kitchen and ensure smooth operation. The Chef will be based at the High Commissioner's Residence. He/she will work closely with the Residence Manager.

Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in Tanzania.

Responsibilities

·         Prepare agreed menus as efficiently as possible, on time, with a high standard, and ensure smooth cooperation between the kitchen and the rest of the household.
·         Oversee and carry out share of kitchen cleaning rota.
·         Plan suitable menus with Residence Manager, making the most of her knowledge of local methods and ingredients.
·         Manage temporary kitchen staff hired for specific functions.
·         Expand range of particular specialities and create a personal recipe portfolio
·         Determine production schedules and staff requirements necessary to ensure timely delivery of services.
·         Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas to ensure conformance to establish standards
·         Instruct other cooks/helpers in the preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food.
·         Monitor sanitation practices to ensure that employees follow standards and regulations.
·         Making a food shopping list and checking the quantity and quality of received products.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Secondary level education
  • Diploma in Cookery or equivalent
  • Able to work long hours, early mornings and late nights
  • Can cook on a budget
  • Good organisation skills
  • High standards of cleanliness and hygiene
  • Strong communication and leadership skills

  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, Email, Internet) is essential.
  • Fluency (oral and written) in English.  Kiswahili is essential.  

Compensation package
The starting monthly salary for the position is Tzs 868,876 + 10% matching contribution to a local pension fund and medical insurance.  Appointment will be under local terms and conditions will be subject to medical and security clearance.
