All School Chaplain
Haven of Peace Academy is seeking an All School Chaplain for the 2015/2016 school year. The mission of Haven of Peace Academy (HOPAC) is to provide an excellent, Christ-centred, international education that meets western academic standards and equips students to live out a biblical worldview in all areas of life to the glory of God.
Detailed Description:
The chaplain role is a crucial one in terms of setting and overseeing the spiritual tone within the school. The chaplain is responsible for actively engaging students and staff in developing the Christian/Spiritual culture of the school. The chaplain is responsible to organize and implement all spiritual programs and activities on and off campus with the goal of helping students to develop as mature, able, and responsible Christians to the praise and glory of God. This position is not limited to just the hours of the school day. If married, both husband and wife need to be equally passionate and committed to student discipleship. The chaplain is a member of the school management team and reports to the director (for leadership responsibilities) and works closely with the school principals. The role will also require flexibility and availability to adapt to needs as they arise and need addressing in consultation with the director and SMT.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Spiritual Leadership
  • Keep the administration and staff spiritually accountable to biblical principles
  • Advise the administration and school board on school-related spiritual matters
  • Work with the administration and staff to address the spiritual formation needs of the students and staff
  • Create and implement a spiritual theme for each school year which would include creating homeroom curriculum to go along with the year's theme
  • Communicate with parents to address spiritual issues at school and to communicate with them on how they can play a role spiritually within the school and within their children's lives
  • Involve parents in prayer and volunteerism as appropriate (Prayer Walks, Moms in Touch, etc).
  • Be available to students and meet and interact with them (through after school activities, coaching, chaperoning school events, etc) to encourage them in life and in their walk with God
  • Create strategies to encourage school staff spiritually
  • Carry out Christ-centred spiritual counseling with students and staff
  • Respond in a timely manner to parent complaints regarding spiritual matters and to parent requests for help or information regarding spiritual matters
  • Organize Spiritual Emphasis Week and spiritual retreats
  • Liaise with Service Learning Coordinator and assist in implementing a spiritual focus to the Service Emphasis Week activities
  • Schedule secondary assemblies and speak at some primary and secondary assemblies
  • Organize secondary Bible Verse Memorization and other sound devotional exercises
  • Develop, oversee, coordinate and be involved in the school discipleship ministry.
  • Oversee and mentor student council leaders
  • Help promote good church-school relations and communication through contact with local church pastors
Academic Leadership
  • Have knowledge of the school's curriculum, standards, values, philosophy and mission.
  • Ensure that biblical principles and worldview are integrated throughout the curriculum and activities.
  • Work closely with the bible teacher and principals to develop, administer and evaluate the bible curriculum
  • Participate, when requested, in formal and informal parent/teacher consultations
  • Participate in continuous professional development through professional reading, college course work, in-services, workshops and conferences.
  • Be available to teach or substitute teach as needed for secondary bible classes
Administrative Leadership
  • Provide input as needed for the school master calendar
  • Participate in beginning of year staff orientation and training, prayer meetings, staff meetings and SMT meetings
  • Respect professional ethics that require confidentiality concerning the sharing of information about children, parents and staff.
  • Deal frankly and directly with school administration in an earnest effort to resolve differences of opinion when they exist.
Required Experience:
- Committed evangelical Christian
- Experience in and passion for Pastoral and Youth Ministry
- At least 5 years of leadership and supervision experience, preferably in a cross cultural or multi cultural setting.
- Some teaching experience preferred.
Educational Requirements:
- Fluent in English
- Bachelor degree in Bible or Theology
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Christian philosophy of education that will help in providing leadership and guidance in the school's development of and commitment to a Christian worldview.
- Have knowledge of the physical/emotional development of children who are the ages of the children at the school and understand the problems they face.
Commitment: 3 years minimum
