SUMATRA EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES , JULY 2014
The Surface and Marine Transport Regulatory Authority (SUMATRA) is a Government Regulatory Authority established by the SUMATRA Act, CAP 413. SUMATRA's role is to regulate, promote and facilitate availability of efficient, safe, quality and reliable transport services in the Surface and Marine Transport sub-sectors through competitive and fair trade practices.

SUMATRA is an equal opportunity employer and it intends to recruit qualified, competent, dynamic and self-motivated Tanzanians to fill the following vacant positions in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department:

1.0 TECHNICAL SUPPORT OFFICER II (Head Office, Dar es Salaam)- 1 Post -REF No. 601

Technical Support Officer II reports to Manager, Information and Communication Technology.


1.1    Duties and Responsibilities

i)        To participate in the provision of professional, timely and effective computers and ICT support services to SUMATRA employees, including technical advice on matters relating to the computer environment;

ii)       To Assist in the identification and resolution of ICT troubleshooting activities to ensure appropriate technical support exists for the continuation of essential ICT Services in a timely, efficient and effective manner within SUMATRA;

iii)     To ensure that SUMATRA information systems infrastructure is effective and efficient;


iv)     To Deliver a high-level of customer service, which is proactive, cooperative and dependable by analyzing user needs and developing rapport with clients;

v)      To Contribute to projects and programs of work that contribute to the effective development, delivery and maintenance of ICT services within SUMATRA;

vi)     To Ensure Documentation of all stages in the ICT projects;

vii)   To provides training and support to users for new systems and applications; and

viii)    To work in collaboration with other team members to achieve the goals in different projects within SUMATRA and

ix)     To perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.


1.2      Minimum qualifications and Requirements

        Holder of University degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer science, Computer Engineering and Information Technology, Computer and Information Security or equivalent qualification.

        At least six (6) months of similar working experience in a reputable institution.

        Possession of Cisco Certified Network Associate Certificate (CCNA) or equivalent is an added advantage.

2.0  APPLICATION SUPPORT OFFICER II (Dar es Salaam) - 1 Post -REF No. 602

Application Support Officer II reports to Manager, Information and Communication Technology.

2.1              Duties and Responsibilities

i)        To participate in the provision of professional, timely and effective Business Applications support to SUMATRA employees, including technical advice on matters relating to the computer environment;

ii)       To assist in the identification and resolution of ICT Business APPLICATIONS troubleshooting activities to ensure appropriate technical support exists for the continuation of essential ICT Services in a timely, efficient and effective manner within SUMATRA;

iii)     To conduct user acceptance testing of new functionality and / or patches across all modules of available Business Applications and ensure that training environment / database remains the same as production systems;

iv)     To assess the benefits, manage and record all changes made to "Configuration" settings for all modules in available Business Application;

v)      To oversee and maintain Authority's ICT record of hardware and software based on industry recognized best practices (e.g. ITIL)

vi)     To maintain records of service level agreement with Authority's ICT vendors;

vii)   Deliver a high-level of customer service, which is proactive, cooperative and dependable by analyzing user needs and developing rapport with clients;

viii)  Contribute to projects and programs of work that contribute to the effective development, delivery and maintenance of ICT services within SUMATRA;

ix)     Ensure Documentation of all stages in the ICT projects;

x)      Provides training and support to users for new systems and applications; and

xi)     To perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Supervisor.



2.2              Minimum qualifications and Requirements

        Holder of University degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer science, Information Technology, Business Information Systems , Information Systems or equivalent qualification.
        At least six (6) months of similar working experience in a reputable institution.

        Possession of Microsoft Certification will be an added advantage.

3.0              CANDIDATES' ATTRIBUTES FOR THE ABOVE VACANT POSITIONS TO BE FILLED:

All Candidates must:
        Demonstrate highest degree of integrity;
        Possess good communication and interpersonal skills;

        Be self-driven and capable of working with minimal supervision;

        Be capable of delivering excellent results while working under pressure with tight schedules and deadlines;

        Possess basic knowledge in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) application, such as; Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Access, Outlook etc.


4.0              TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Successful candidates will be employed on Unspecified Period of Contract (Permanent and Pensionable Terms). However, the employment will only be confirmed after completion of six (6) months' probation period with candidate's successful performance.


5.0              REMUNERATION

Attractive remuneration package will be offered to successful candidates.

6.0              MODE OF APPLICATION

7.0              DEADLINE FOR RECEIVING APPLICATION
