Columbia University's ICAP Global Health Action in Tanzania, works in partnership with the Ministries of Health and Social Welfare (MOHSW) in mainland and Zanzibar. ICAP Tanzania provides quality comprehensive family focused HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment services at 208 health facilities. The facilities involved include regional and district hospitals, health centres and dispensaries in Kagera, Kigoma and Zanzibar. This program is part of a broader US Government HIV/AIDS initiative in Tanzania and receives funding from Centres for Disease Control Tanzania (CDC), PEPFAR and the support of the American People. A key aspect of the program is to build the capacity of the MOHSW, at the national and sub-national levels, and indigenous CBO/NGOs to manage HIV programs including financial, administrative, program management and technical advisory skills. The program has employed competent dynamic individuals with programmatic understanding, clinical background as well as public health management knowledge in implementing the program objectives.

 ICAP - Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University is looking for a Research Coordinator to provide support to the implementation of the Combination Prevention (CP) program and evaluation in Bukoba Municipal District, Kagera, Tanzania


Position Title: Research Coordinator (1) Position

Reports to: Director of Research and Evaluation

Location:   Bukoba-Kagera Regional Office

Contract Duration:    One (1) year, with a possibility of renewal depending on the availability of funds

Overall Job Function:
The incumbent shall provide technical and scientific input into all research and reporting aspects of the Combination Prevention (CP) study which is a multi-year project (2013 - 2016) aiming to reduce HIV transmission in Bukoba Municipal District through a combination of intensified program activities in HIV testing and counseling, linkage to services (male circumcision, care and treatment), increased access to antiretroviral therapy, retention and re-engagement in care, and community mobilization.

Key Responsibilities:
Design protocols, data collection instruments, standard operating procedures, and databases
Provide technical support for all activities related to the CP study. These include, but may not be limited to: database design, data collection, data security, data management/cleaning, data analysis, standard operating procedures (SOP) development, work planning and activity management, community mobilization, coordination with CP-dedicated project and ICAP staff members, building capacity of the project team and local partners, review and monitor progress toward targets, abstract development and dissemination of findings in peer-reviewed journals and international/national conferences.
Attending or participating in meetings with Government of Tanzania, donors or partners as requested by supervisor
Education:
Post graduate qualification in relevant field preferably public health.
Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge and experience in the field of public health and HIV/AIDS epidemiology
Minimum 2 years experience conducting public health research
Good quantitative analytical skills
Good knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies (SAS and STAT)
Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills required
Demonstrated experience supervising junior researchers
