Position: US Forest Service Indonesia Project Coordinator
Base: Jakarta, Indonesia
OVERVIEW
The US Forest Service International Programs (USFS/IP) and Management and Engineering Technologies International, Inc. (METI) is collaborating with US Agency for International Development Mission in Indonesia (USAID/Indonesia) on a capacity building and technical cooperation program, together with the Ministry of Forestry (MoF) and other counterparts. Specifically, USFS intends to collaborate with MoF to support forest restoration initiatives, economic analyses, geospatial data integration, and carbon stock assessments. USFS activities will also support and complement on-going and future climate change mitigation, biodiversity and forestry-related activities implemented by USAID/Indonesia.
 
USFS, together with USAID/Indonesia and MoF are developing a work plan of USFS activities to be implemented from October 2014 to September 2015. To facilitate this collaborative relationship and workplan implementation, METI is seeking to hire a mid-career professional to be the Indonesia Project Coordinator, based in Indonesia. The Indonesia Project Coordinator will work closely with USFS/IP, USAID/Indonesia, MoF and other partners on the planning, preparation, and implementation of all USFS activities in Indonesia. Applicants must be Indonesian citizens.
 
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Overall responsibilities of the Project Coordinator include:
·         Manage and provide oversight for the effective implementation of all USFS activities, in coordination with the USFS/IP program manager.
·         Serve as the local point of contact for USFS activities, cultivating strong working relationships between USFS and MoF, USAID, and other key partners in Indonesia.
·         Serve as the lead in planning in-country USFS technical visits, workshops and trainings, including: arranging meetings, identifying workshop/training participants, preparing and sending invitations, arranging venues, arranging participant travel, and other logistics.
·         Work closely with visiting USFS experts to provide input on the most appropriate technical assistance, orient them to the country context, and introduce them to counterparts.
·         Stay in close communication with MoF, USAID, and other counterparts in Indonesia to ensure that USFS technical assistance is meeting needs and expectations.
·         Stay informed of relevant donor, NGO, and government work in Indonesia in order to ensure the relevance and complementarity of ongoing USFS work.
·         Contribute to ongoing USFS work planning processes, including providing recommendations for follow-on technical assistance.
 
 

Required Skillset
·         Knowledge and at least five years of work experience in the environmental sector in Indonesia.
·         Minimum of an undergraduate degree in related field, graduate degree is preferred.
·         Ability to work effectively without day-to-day supervision.
·         Ability to work in a dynamic environment with Indonesia and US government agencies, international donors, NGOs, community groups, and other stakeholders.
·         Excellent organizational skills.
·         Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
·         Required computer proficiencies: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet.
·         Language skills: English- fluent spoken, written. Bahasa Indonesia - fluent spoken, written.
 
DUTY STATION AND EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
The Project Coordinator will be based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Some travel within Indonesia will be expected and at least one trip to the United States. Applicants must be Indonesian citizens.
 
The successful candidate will be offered a fulltime consultant agreement for this position. The initial contract will be for one-year with a 90 day probationary period. There may be potential for annual renewal contingent upon project funds.
