Serengeti Breweries Ltd (SBL) operates exclusively in Tanzania and is the 2nd largest beer company with a market share of close to 30%.  SBL is a subsidiary of East Africa Breweries Ltd (EABL) – which is partly owned by one of the world's biggest alcoholic beverage companies, DIAGEO. The company is an integrated demand/supply business with 3 operational breweries in Dar Es Salaam, Mwanza, and Moshi. The company boasts famous locally brewed brands, such as Serengeti Premium Lager, Tusker Lager, Tusker Light, Kibo Gold, Pilsner Lager, Senator just to name a few. The spirits folder is filled with world-class brands from abroad – including Smirnoff, 

Context/Scope: 

To train, develop and protect People, brands, assets and reputation of SBL. Processes must operate effectively and efficiently to ensure adherence to legislation, Diageo's policies and the Diageo Global Risk Management Standards. Diageo has established a requirement to provide operational risk management support across its Demand locations in Africa. This is in order to satisfy Diageo's governance requirements of its operating units.

Leadership Responsibilities:
Driving Health &Safety leadership across the demand team. The role will champion Safety and Risk management improvement across Tanzania   They will be responsible for communicating, reporting and ensuring compliance to the Diageo Global Risk Management Standards (GRMS). They will lead the Safety changes required to meet Diageo's requirements across the Demand locations for Tanzania.

Purpose of Role:
To train, coach and assess Demand team members achieve world class capabilities and management of health & safety and other risk issues. Working with Sales Leadership and executive teams to constantly improve standards in the area of: -
  • Health & safety
  • Fire Safety Management
  • Use of hazardous substances
  • Control and management of hazardous tasks
  • Event Risks assessment
  • Risk Management
  • Personnel safety
  • Compliance to various policies including (but not limited to) motor vehicle use
Top Accountabilities
  • Lead and Support the Safety activities across Tanzania's Demand business to ensure they embed and sustain a culture of Compliance to all the Diageo Risk management standards including legal compliance.
  • Lead Safety management initiatives through the Demand leadership teams to ensure they are entrenched across all locations.
  • Embed Diageo Standards in all Demand locations in Tanzania, including training required at the locations
  • Manage the development of the Safety capability of in-market resources (e.g. local HR, Safety Champions and Sales Managers)
  • Follow-up safety KPI's and self-initiate improvement programs for problem areas. Participate in development of classroom and in-the-field training programs for specific improvement areas.
  •  Ensure that the Health and Safety agenda for the Demand team is sustained through OSHAS credibility, regulatory compliance to ensure positive corporate reputation, adherence to statutory inspection of Sales team fleet to EABL and global standards.  Support the sales team function via Event Risk Assessments and ensuring corporate building safety and emergency procedures. 
  • Management of sales team fleet in terms of proper vehicle management, fleet maintenance, general vehicle upkeep and handling of emergencies and accidents.
  
Qualifications and Experience Required: 
  • University degree
  • Certificate level in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent
  • Excellent knowledge of Diageo Risk management processes and policies
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good auditing skills
  • Influencing without authority
  • Change management skills
  • Computer literate
  • Proven track record in Safety management (2-3 years relevant experience)
  • Able to lead or work effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Experience in Fleet Management will be an added advantage
