The International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL) is seeking a lawyer to serve as a Legal Advisor for projects in Latin America.
ICNL has worked in over 100 countries and throughout Latin America to strengthen the legal framework for civil society, civic participation, and philanthropy. Duties
The Legal Advisor will be based in ICNL's office in Washington, D.C. The Legal Advisor must be legally eligible to work in the United States. Extensive travel is expected. Under the direction of ICNL's Senior Management, the Legal Advisor will undertake the following duties:
• Providing technical legal assistance, including analyses of draft legislation, for use by government officials, Members of Parliament, NGO representatives, and other interested parties;
• Helping to develop and administer ICNL's programs and strategies;
• Representing ICNL at regional meetings, workshops, seminars, and conferences;
• Designing and leading capacity-building activities for NGO leaders, law students, and others;
• Assisting with proposal writing and fundraising activities;
• Writing and editing reports, briefing papers, and other program materials;
• Undertaking funder-required reporting and other tasks; and
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Law degree from an accredited school and at least five years professional experience;
• Fluency in both Spanish and English;
• Excellent research, analytical, writing, and presentation skills;
• Willingness to travel extensively; NGO experience, particularly in challenging political environments, is a distinct advantage;
• Experience with tax laws covering not-for-profit entities is preferred and familiarity with USAID requirements is preferred.
Compensation: Competitive salary, based on experience and qualifications.
